The media has been in a frenzy after reports that an apparent 6th mass extinction is in the works... one that could see the demise of our own species Homo sapiens, within as little as 100 years.

Even though our conservation status according to the IUCN red list is LC (Least Concern), a feeling arises that could very quickly change at some point, with our status possibly turning to CR (Critically Endangered) or even EW (Extinct in the Wild).

What what do you think?

Alarms have been sounding for many years about drastic reductions in honeybee populations that can't be explained (we need them for food production - there is no artificial method to replace how bees spread pollen)

Seems that our toxins are too numerous for the environment to cleanse with its own naturally-ocurring methods

It ain't happening, for reasons I can't explain. But I know we still got thousands of years to live. It only seems like that from our current puny perspective.

Not surprised. I've been hoping for the longest time that this Ice-Age intermission would blow over and it will freeze everywhere again (;

This seems ridiculous. I, and Mother, do not believe this.

But if an extinction is coming, I will be in fine. I'll be with Mother.

Well, I am more interested in seeing once again, the law of natural selection, in action. Will we be considered worthy enough to be alive or we'll die. It is interesting, if anything. And if it happens, which will, then will I survive or perish? The very thought is full of excitement.

as long as its quick i dnt mind :bdpf:

Do you think it was quick for dinosaurs? It will be a slow process, nature takes its time in everything it does.

You'll be dead, not together. Worst case scenario, your mother dies, and nature choose you to remain alive. And trust me, earth is beyond repair at this point, so it has to start the process of destruction to carry on the lives which it deems worthy.

It will take hundreds of thousands of years for our species to likely be annihilated through natural means, apart from the obvious Stellar threats. We'll be fine.

We will always be together. Our love transcends life and death.

What the hell are you on about? Just how will our throughts be erased?
If you're saying we will all be braindead then it's already happened and it's spreading.

Besides, if this is to occur within the next century then it's no cause for concern as everyone here will be dead by then.

my thoughts? who cares we will be dead.

Even in this and past eras, it has been possible to live to 120-130. Medicine will be even more advanced in even 50 years and life expectancy will increase as a result.

In other words, much of the current alive population under 40 has fair chances of being alive at that point... and the chances increase as you drop that number down to 30, and so on.

An empty shell that is incapable of taking care of itself and has their brain failing is as good as dead to me. In other words, we can increase our life expentancy to 200 years if you want but our youth leaves us in our 40's regardless so there is no point in being alive for that long.

If this was a major issue, I'm sure this wouldn't be the first time I'd be hearing about it.

What an uninformed comment to make.

Jiroemon Kimura and most of the others in the band who passed the 110mark were/are still active. Many of them were perfectly capable of taking care of themselves and still engaged in social pursuits. Kimura was especially notable for being active and keeping up to date with current events right up to his death at 116. He was even working till close to a 100.

Being able to increase life expectancy brings being able to maintain good health overal too.

If this was a major issue, I'm sure this wouldn't be the first time I'd be hearing about it.

You'd be surprised.

He was an empty shell like I said you become with that age. If I'm going to live for that long I want to maintain my youth. I'll give him credit for keeping himself healthy at that age though.

This sounds like some info that Alex jones would spread around. I don't know what the mass extinction phenomenon is nor have i heard about it.
