~ Chapter 2 : The Portal ~
The sound of birds chirping opens the scene as Konoha airspace fills the morning view. From a distance afar, the Hokage Mountain dominates the surrounding scenery, showing off its proud stone carving of the faces of the previous Hokages. On the foot of the mountain lays the new Hokage mansion built some time after the war has ended.
Two figures walk across Konoha’s main entrance.

Gaara : Konoha…
Kankuro : What’s the matter? Reminiscing about old memories?
Gaara : I remember walking through these streets, it is quite chilly nowadays. There is something different about this village now.
Kankuro : (laughs) Nah, you must be missing Temari so much. It has been ages since we last saw her.
Gaara : I hope she’s doing well. We’ll be meeting her after our task here is finished.
Kankuro : Ah, it has been peaceful between Konoha and Suna. Intermarriage between our countries has been common as well. I wonder when will be my turn.
Gaara : Finally you talk about marriage, Kankuro.
Kankuro : I hate to admit it, but I think it’s my mask that keep ladies away from me.
Gaara : What about that ninja tool kunoichi? You saved her in the our last joint mission with Konoha and she sent many letters to you after the incident. I think she likes you.
Kankuro : (shocked) Really? How can I not realize it? I thought she was just admiring my puppet techniques. Heh, my puppet show is the finest in the world, remember?
Gaara : Huh..…really Kankuro, you need to learn from your sister.
Kankuro : (smirks) Haha, after you, brother.
They walk through the village and arrive at the gate of Hokage’s mansion. Two ANBUs, who are guarding the gate immediately notice their arrival.

ANBU : Kazekage-sama! Welcome to Konoha. Hokage-sama has been expecting you.
Gaara : I’m sorry for our late arrival, apparently we’ve lost contact with your last messenger.
ANBU : About that...please come with me, Hokage-sama will explain in detail.
Gaara : (looks at Kankuro a while) Fine then. Lead the way.
As they walk through the corridor, Gaara realizes that numerous ANBUs are guarding the mansion. He convinces himself that those are for security measures. After all, it is a meeting of the most important figures in the world of shinobi. The ANBU escorts them into a room within the huge hall in the mansion. A table with an O-shaped hole in the middle is the first thing Gaara sees inside the room. Then his eyes catch the presence of two figures he recognizes, that being the Mizukage, Mei Terumi, and the First Division Commander during the war, Darui. They do bring a bodyguard, but Gaara does not recognize them. There are two more person across the table, possibly the new Tsuchikage and his bodyguard. Gaara has heard about Iwagakure’s inner conflict which resulted in civil war after Ōnoki’s death.
Mizukage : Kazekage, it has been a long time!
Gaara : Mizukage! and ...Raikage too I guess?
Darui : Yeah, I’m the boss now in case you doubt the validity of my presence.
Tsuchikage : I’m Tarou. We already met last time during war.
Gaara : Is that so? I couldn’t recall.
Tsuchikage : (chuckled) That’s fine. I am not in the same division with you. Plus I had my own function that Oonoki-sama placed me because I am the only one capable of that role.
Gaara : (curious) What was that r..
Suddenly a voice appears from his back. A familiar, friendly voice.
??? : Gaara? Kankuro?
Gaara : (surprised)….
??? : It’s been a while. I knew this day would come! Glad that we could meet again.
Kankuro : Sa—Sakura? You look really different.
Sakura : Oh, stop it, I’m not that young anymore. (inner Sakura : I can’t believe people would still be stunned with my beauty at this age…nihihi)
Kankuro : (serious face) No…actually there are some wrinkles on your forehead.
Sakura : Wh--whaaaat..? Where is it? How could this be!
Kankuro : (smirks) Just kidding, it’s always nice to see an old friend.
Sakura : (inner Sakura : Ouhh great, Kankuro knows how to joke now too) Friendship never dies after all, right?
Kankuro : Anyway, what are you doing here? We’re supposed to see the Hokage. Is Tsunade still in charge?
Sakura : Eh? Tsunade-sama has become our village advisor. She retired from her seat a year ago.
Mei : Heh, I must admit that I admire Tsunade, she is really hardworking, even at her age right now.

Gaara : But I see that the stone carving on the mountain does not change. Who is the new Hokage then?
Darui : (interrupts) That’s right.. I was just as puzzled as you are Kazekage. I have never been to Konoha before.
Gaara : Wait, don’t tell me Naruto is the new…
Sakura : Naruto? ……
Gaara : So Naruto has finally achieve his dream?
Sakura : Sorry to disappoint you Gaara, but….. I am the 6th Hokage of Konoha.
All eyes stare in disbelief. Mei doesn’t show any expression though, implying that she might already know about Sakura’s appointment. 10 years ago, when Hidden Mist was organizing the first tournament, the 5 Kages were still the same Kages who lead their villages into victory in the 4th Shinobi World War. Hidden Mist's 7 swordsmen led by Chōjūrō emerged victorious in the tournament even though Konoha was seen as the favorite. Rumors has it that Tsunade has considered stepping down after the tournament to make way for young prodigies, favorably Naruto Uzumaki.
Darui : Konoha had been producing fine kunoichi I see. I would not hesitate to send more kunoichi from our village in the chuunin exam in the future.
Gaara : But…..Naruto….
Sakura : I know I know, it was his ultimate dream to become Hokage. Naruto….he has become beyond a Kage now.
Tarou : Excuse me for interrupting, but I think we should leave the chatting for later.
Sakura : Ah, you’re right Tsuchikage. Please, everyone take your seat.
The Kages all take their respective seats. Their personal bodyguard stand by their side. Every one of the bodyguards besides Kankuro is new to Sakura.
Sakura : This meeting serves two purposes. Firstly, I’d like to welcome all the honorable Kages to Konoha. I am Sakura Haruno, the Rokudaime Hokage of Konohagakure. As you can see, Konoha has been rebuilt since twenty years ago. In order to commemorate our victories in the 4th Shinobi World War, we have agreed that every 10 years, a memorial tournament will be held in one of the 5 villages to strengthen our bond.
Mei : Hidden Mist is the best organizer so far, wouldn’t we all agree? (proud)
Darui : We have yet to taste the battling atmosphere in Konoha yet, Mizukage. Then.. what is the second purpose that has brought us here, Hokage?
Sakura : Naruto (short pause) ….Naruto has discovered a new world in the western portal. A world of civilized people!
The room goes silent. Once again, all eyes stare at Sakura in disbelief. If Mei could keep her calm expression before this, now she can no longer hide the shocking look on her face . Sakura believes if there was anything that they will be surprised of, it is whether the discovery of the new world, or the fact that Konoha has now possess the Portal technology.
