By most standards of this fandom, if a female qualifies as fanservice, they're great. It's also a little saddening that most bandwagon a character for power purposes instead of their actual characterization these days.

I agree with the bold.

If Sakura so much as breathes, it's a sin. When people dislike a character, they overlook any type of goodness they may display at a given point and actively search for the bad. If there's nothing negative to be found at the moment they want to bash, then they just take something and distort it to the point that they can hate. Such as the abuse claims that you mentioned. Lol SasuSaku was only shown for a few panels in the last few chapters and people are already so quick to make accusations pertaining to their relationship.

Hinata is loved because boys reading this manga view her as perfect wife material. They probably look for a self-insert and dream of a women like that. xD No one can possibly criticize their precious Hinata-hime. u'-'u Lol And if she does anything wrong or possibly questionable, she must be forgiven or it should be overlooked. xd

It would be a good topic for thesis. Looking at how and why people are so obsessed with her, and yet at the same time claim they don't care for her. Funny how her haters mention her more than fans. Normally, when people dislike something, they try not to think of it in order to not get upset or annoyed. People apparently like to get riled up these days, I don't know...
Peeps have the mindset of someone between a 12th century Lord and a 12 year old hormonal teen when they present the ideal waifu material as "big tatays, good heritage, shy, kawai, loyal". Imo Hinata fans who get off to her (both appearance -pukes- and personality which makes them jizzy) need to reconsider how they view women and spouses.

Yeah one person only starts to see negatives if s/he hates something. One can see this kind of stuff from fanbase:
-Minato/Gai/Lee/Jiraiya/etc. are awesome! They do not have any special linage to back up their power and make them useful.
-Sakura does not have any special linage she sucks. She does not have any relevancy cuz clan means plot relevancy and usefulnes at literature level. Being Senju would make her a better character.

While it is true that Sakura didn't get much screentime she still got a lot more than the other members of K11 and other female characters so it just goes to show that the screentime wasn't used very effectively considering her underwhelming character throughout most of the story. The same would go for Hinata but she is less relevant than Sakura and as a result, was even more one dimensional.

Still Kishi was a very successful manga writer and managed to keep a large number of people very attentive to the manga. Most of the heated discussions revolve around Sakura and Hinata, so in a sense, Kishi did an amazing job in developing those characters as the controversies just allowed the manga to get discussed more heavily. It is quite ironic that in the end, this is all what it comes down to. The gullible people fell for the trap.

I'm pretty sure the manga's appeal is more about the fights than it is of developing characters so I'm not really that disappointed.

Kushina apparently gave up her Hokage dream for Minato. In other words reduced to a housewife.Females in the 21st century dont give up on their dreams just for the sake of their husbands and stay in the kitchen
Konan was shown to have a crush on Yahiko and for the most part she didnt seem that epic
Anko became fat btch at the end.Shitted on by Kishi
When I read the manga I thought it said that Kushina only told everyone she wanted to be Hokage because she wanted to liked by everyone since she was new and wanted to make a good impression. I thought Konan's fighting was amazing and yes, Anko did eventually become fat, but I guess in times of peace people stack up on dango and pizza? Haha! Maybe this is the way she prefers. I don't know why she would do that to herself, but that's what you get for abandoning your training and overeating, I guess.

I hate what Kishi did to Anko in the end either, but overall, I still think she was a pretty cool character.

Kushina just fits a mother stereotype and was the damsel in distress for Minato to look cool, as well as a plot device to motivate him (most of his flashbacks were about her).

Konan had no theme to her other than being a follower. She and Nagato followed Yahiko when they were alive, then, Nagato followed Tobi and Konan followed Nagato. She did nothing of her own mindset, she just chose that she wanted to do whatever her comrades did. After Nagato's death, she admitted that she didn't really know what she was going to do. She just fought Tobi and wanted to protect Naruto's wish because it was something Nagato wanted as well.

Anko had no character development in the story and was only used as comic relief in the end. She's obese now, and yet used to be one of the most fit shinobi. Kishimoto basically sent off the theme that you can't be beautiful if you're still single once you hit 40+. Lol

Kushina is the best out of these 3. She at least could think for herself and had her own individual theme (that of a loving mother that the story didn't have prior to her entrance). She had a decent back story (struggled as a jin) and her most important relationships received development (Minato and Naruto).

Konan was interesting just by being an Akatsuki member. She also had an interesting back story, since she was a part of the Ame orphans trio. However, take away Yahiko and Nagato... this character doesn't have anything. All of her actions are based on the dreams/aspirations of the latter two, none of the ideas she followed in her life were originally her's.

Anko had an interesting back story. Kishimoto could have delved into what occurred when she was Orochimaru's subordinate. However, he did not and only left her to be comic relief and fan service.

Tsunade was the most well-written female character, however, the female characters in this manga are average-written at best. The runner up would probably be Kushina. After that, it's up to fan interpretation since the majority weren't distinguished enough in the story.

My point still stands. My original post said that someone should not have a female as their fave, this doesn't imply that none were okay. It just means that there are other characters that happen to be male that were done more justice and therefore it would make sense that people gravitate towards them more. Also keep in mind that there's a difference between a likeable character and a well-written one. Danzo can be a well-written character while Suigetsu can be a likeable one, but the reverse doesn't apply for example.
They say that no two persons will ever read the same book. The Anko you read about was completely different than the one I read about. Kushina is my favorite female character and Tsunade was just...oh, don't even get me started. I'm glad you liked her though and I thought she was a very useful Kage.

I like Hinata because she reminds me of Naruto.

And her drive to move forward even if it's one step at a time.

That and her clan's fighting style is ****ing awesome. Reminds me of IP man for some reason.

I mean I saw Hinata's character and went "cool, I hope the best for her. Her cousin is a **** though."

Been a fan since.

Found out that she liked Naruto and was like, "come on, Kishi let it happen"

Well, that's true in a way given that no two people perceive a story the exact same way.

Good for you having them as your faves. It's your opinion after all. It's good to stick to it. :)

Its not over, The movie is still left, they might dig out her corpse and shoot in the head for the lulz
Sakura is still alive End of Days...

who's digging out who's corpse now?
