It's pretty clear to me that Naruto was worked over thoroughly and silly to think that he sustained no trauma to his head which is why he could wear the head protector. It's just simple logic that you would protect the injury regardless.

Its Naruto, anything can happen at this point. You are right that it is speculation at this point. But saying its stupid for him to return to Kohona at this point is totally not on. He did say himself when he entered the fight. That he wants to become Hokage. And he can only become a Hokage at the Leaf village. So I really don't see how is it so impossible for him to return.
