I won't mention any spoilers right out the gate on the off chance people can't read, but be warned that this thread will open the flood gates to any early-screeners who have seen the film.
Personally, I'm very conflicted on the movie. Visually, it's without a doubt the best Star Wars film I've seen. But cinematography/visuals can only carry a movie so far. I felt the film was HORRIBLY paced (the subplot with Fin and Rose was completely unnecessary) and essentially nothing of real interest happened until the last half of the movie. I was getting very worried when I actually started getting bored during the first half; actually, the feeling I had was very similar to how I felt during the build up to the War arc in Naruto - I knew from the start what I wanted to see, so waiting through the setup was just a grueling game of patience until it got to that point. The problem with The Last Jedi though is that the film didn't get around to the stuff I (and everyone else) wanted to see until quite a good amount of time into the film, and the pacing of it all made the film feel like it was easily three hours long (not a good thing). Now on the positive side: the moments where the film was at it's highest, the things I wanted to see, where likely up there with the highest high points of any Star Wars film. But unlike the other great films, THIS film only achieved those highs in a very few handful SCENES.
I'll see it again this weekend to confirm my thoughts, but as of right now I'd say this film was pretty disappointing (minus those 3 or so scenes).
