I won't mention any spoilers right out the gate on the off chance people can't read, but be warned that this thread will open the flood gates to any early-screeners who have seen the film.

Personally, I'm very conflicted on the movie. Visually, it's without a doubt the best Star Wars film I've seen. But cinematography/visuals can only carry a movie so far. I felt the film was HORRIBLY paced (the subplot with Fin and Rose was completely unnecessary) and essentially nothing of real interest happened until the last half of the movie. I was getting very worried when I actually started getting bored during the first half; actually, the feeling I had was very similar to how I felt during the build up to the War arc in Naruto - I knew from the start what I wanted to see, so waiting through the setup was just a grueling game of patience until it got to that point. The problem with The Last Jedi though is that the film didn't get around to the stuff I (and everyone else) wanted to see until quite a good amount of time into the film, and the pacing of it all made the film feel like it was easily three hours long (not a good thing). Now on the positive side: the moments where the film was at it's highest, the things I wanted to see, where likely up there with the highest high points of any Star Wars film. But unlike the other great films, THIS film only achieved those highs in a very few handful SCENES.

I'll see it again this weekend to confirm my thoughts, but as of right now I'd say this film was pretty disappointing (minus those 3 or so scenes).

Its far from a perfect film by any means, and so far it seems very divisive amongst the fanbase.

But I loved it.

Because the Star Wars fanbase won't ever be really pleased, and Rian Johnson knew that. So he made the entire movie a massive troll.

You think we're gonna rethread Empire? Nope, its Jedi! Except nope, we're subverting that too!

You think Rey's parents are gonna be important? Guess what, they're no one! They sold her off for drinking money and they're long dead!

You think Snoke is gonna be the same big bad villain in the shadows Palpatine was? Well, too bad, Kylo killed him!

You think Kylo is gonna turn to the Light Side after betraying Snoke and fighting alongside Rey just like his Grandaddy? Except he doesn't, he' the new supreme leader now!

You really think Luke Skywalker's gonna die fighting Kylo Ren? How would that happen, he's still on Ach-Too, that was just force projection! (The entire theater started clapping when that was revealed, it was great._

Being someone who is predisposed to not caring very much about the sequel trilogy due to their, in my eyes, silly premise, I'm probably being harsh on the movie for its faults. But they're there, and I'll still be critical about them.

I think the movie has heart, but ultimately, it makes some really poor decisions in regards to its characters and how they're treated. I can partway understand the reasoning behind Luke's actions and mentality, but what ends up happening is that it goes against his previous characterisation without taking it in a new direction in a reasonable manner. This comes back to the huge vacuum period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, which really doesn't help any of The Last Jedi's characterisation of Luke. You see Luke really bitter and regretful over his actions in the blank period, but what made him so fearful to begin with? What events occurred to make him distort his own self-perception? Did he just forget about how he managed to turn Darth Vader back into Anakin Skywalker with the galaxy's fate hanging in the balance? Putting that aside, Mark Hamill's performance as Luke is really spectacular, and his character arc is handled extremely well (the final shot of him sitting outside watching the binary suns as he fades away was one of the best scenes I've ever witnessed in a Star Wars movie). And overall, his role does serve to further one of the ideas of the movie; "nobody is ever really gone". To paraphrase, anyway.

This leads into my next point on Snoke. I was extremely disappointed with how they treated him, and the reason for this is that his final character treatment displayed exactly what I thought was wrong with The Force Awakens, what's wrong with this movie, and what's wrong with the sequel trilogy itself as a whole. That it doesn't care about creating an organic tale that adds to and strengthens its predecessor movies in the saga, whilst also being solid additions to the universe. All that matters is that they pump out more movies with the Star Wars name to cash in on casual moviegoers who don't care very much for continuity or extended story-telling. He was shown to be a prominent and important figure in The Force Awakens, and built up to be the new Palpatine-esque figure. You see that sprinkled throughout the movie when he throws Hux around in the Star Destroyer whilst being on another ship, a skill which has only before been shown by Darth Vader. He casually zaps Kylo with Force Lightning, a skill that the Emperor used to great effect before. He verbally abuses Kylo, physically ragdolls Rey with the Force, and then proceeds to die from subtle manipulation which he should easily, and was arguably shown to be aware of? The only possible justification I could have for this is that Snoke was goading Kylo into killing him on purpose, so he could fulfill the cycle of Darth Bane's Rule of Two. But we'll never know, since the intent to write the event in such a way was never made clear. So I'll chalk it up to being a terrible write-off.

Then we have Kylo Ren himself. I was pretty excited when I saw him talking about letting the Sith and the Jedi, the Empire and the Rebellion die. But then, as soon as he mentioned ruling over the galaxy, I lost all expectation I had for him. His character hasn't grown whatsoever. He isn't really characterised at all in this movie, compared to The Force Awakens, where he was fixated on Darth Vader. In this movie, he has no clear motivation, and its probably just implied that he wants to surpass Vader. Which also isn't explained. It's just lazy writing.

Again, Rey being seemingly as adept at using The Force, and being a Jedi in general, as Anakin or Luke, which is just retarded. Taking down the Royal Guards of Snoke, with flimsy lightsaber practice that was only shown once in the movie. A lot of people are giving flak for Leia being able to pull herself out of space, which was pretty strange, but I can accept it. The rest of the movie is really average to me. Very drawn out, though some of the scenes were pretty good.

I mean...that's one thing I imagine would be universally agreed upon. The Pretorian Guard battle has my vote for movie battle sequence of the year.

I thought it was an amazing movie with many flaws.
I'll drop a quick pros and cons

+'s
-All the main characters had plenty of screen time, no one was cut short of it. Great development all around.
-just the right amount of humour, not too much not too little, porgs were a great addition.
-the throne room battle was definitely the best action sequence shown in star wars in my opinion.
-the few but large plot twist, several done in great anticlimactic action
-awesome new characters, I loved Rose.
-Leia's (Carrie) final performance wasn't short and didn't seem irrelevant like in force awakens.
-I loved that Kylo even as flawed as he is pushed beyond what sith before him couldn't do which was instead of being that side puppet, killed his master and took over the helm as the new baddie something Darth whatevers could never. He probably had the best development out of everyone in this film.
-left with Cliff of Rey and Kylo's still able to be connected to one another when he 'sees' her leave aboard the millennium falcon and why didn't she kill him when she woke up first? Something between them isn't all black and white..
-Rey's parentage, many people were upset about this but I like it, somewhat of a theme in the film as luke was teaching Rey that the force is not just for Jedi and sith, it's for everyone and everything, even such as a nobody as herself if the force calls onto her then you have that capability of either acknowledging it or not.
-Holdo's sacrifice, that scene where she Kamikaze the cruiser ship into Snoke's fleet at light speed was stunning and one of the greatest visual art I've seen in film.

-'s
- off the bat, Finn and Rose's side story was somewhat boring, it had good moments but for most of it is was meh. (They still were great in the movie for the story they were given and as stated I loved Rose and can't wait to see more of her)
-Leia using the force in space after explosion, it was a bit cringy but this was possibly because the selection of music, they played Leia's theme.
-Captain phasma, a complete waste of a character in my opinion
-the stable kids at the casino planet, I know what Disney trying to do here especially with that ending scene where that little kid uses the force on the broom. Disney is going to milk the **** out of this when this trilogy "ends"
-lack of Snoke's background or identity, he was amazing and truly sinister for sure but we are left with a cut in half nobody that's dead so what's even the point in knowing him anymore?
-The knights of ren, where the hell are they???? Kylo took 12 students with him and slaughtered the rest, people keep speculating that Snoke's guards were them but that's just speculation and a bad one at that.
-Hux, for most part I loved the comedic element they added to his character but when Kylo was slapping him around several times in the end I felt that they really diminished his character a bit..
Rate 9/10

Now my fav list is

Last Jedi
RoTJ
Empire
Force awakens
New hope
RoTS
phantom menace
Attack of the clones

Tldr; Rose is waifu.
