The Lantern
My name is Gabriel, I can’t tell you my last name, the enemy may find out my true identity, and I can’t risk the lives of my friends and families. I am known as “Lantern” the defender of good and justice, you will find me where injustice and anarchy has prevailed, I will be fighting with all my might to restore peace to the world and secure a safe future for the new generations and maintain a safe one for the current generations. How can I do this you ask me while I am an eighteen year old boy, well I will share you my story but you must keep it a secret .It was a cold day, the wind was blowing a song of sorrow and despair, the birds were migrating, it appeared that the world was in sorrow for the situation of young Gabriel. A sound of ringing and sprinting on wood disturbed the symphony of the wind. It was an alarm ringing and the sound of a rough man climbing on wooden made stairs.
Man: Wake up Gabriel, it’s the first day of school, get dressed and meet me down.
The sound of a faint groan emitted from the door of the room, it was followed by a soft and tired sound of a boy: Ok Dad I’ll be out in a minute.
Gabriel rushed to wear his cloth, but he stumbled on his own feet. Gabriel fell face first to the marble floor, he didn’t feel pain presumably do to his rush. Gabriel stood up and wore his cloth which constituted of blue jeans, a green shirt, and a pair of sport shoes, with addition to the necklace gifted to him by his late mother on his seventeenth birthday, Gabriel never took of the necklace he found it as a good luck charm with it’s silver color and gold in cravings. Gabriel packed his school books and rushed downstairs to meet his father dressed and ready. His father was a rather tall person, he had honey colored eyes, white skin and dark grey straight hair unlike Gabriel’s spiky grey hair.
His father rushed him to the car outside and drove a silent drive toward the desired location, it was a scene Gabriel was accustomed to, double floored houses with white paint and red brick made rooftops. After about 30 minutes of driving Gabriel and his father reached a small diner with a burnt up Led banner that should have adverted pop’s diner. Gabriel and his father said there goodbyes to each other and Gabriel went into the diner while his father went in the opposite direction with car.
Gabriel went into the diner t find his friend digging into a plate of apple pies with a lot of empty syrup sacks on the table. Gabriel gave a cough to gain the attention of the skinny boy with a big appetite but it was futile, the boy kept eating as if there were no tomorrow. Gabriel then approached the boy and gave him a nudge. The boy startled and almost dropped his syrup infested pie.
Boy: Oh hey Gabe…what took you so long?
Gabriel: Nice to see you to Jake.
Gabriel took a seat across to Jake who was wearing black pants and a purple T-shirt, and ordered a milk shake and some frosted sugar cornflakes.
A few minutes passed with only the sound of spoons and forks emitting through the diner, it was only then disrupted by Jake dropping his plate on the floor causing shrapnaels of glass to scatter around the black and white marble colored floor.
??: You never change do you, every damn time you have to break something. Which number is it this weak 4 or 5? I bet it is six!
Jake: S-Sorry Lisa, it won’t happen again.
Lisa: Yeah like this is the first time I hear that.
Lisa with her brunette hair, and small figure wouldn’t appear as a scary person, but with her crooked nose and scary eyes she looked like a miniature witch.
Lisa: Now you two should be heading toward school, only 15 minutes until the bell rings and with your luck that won’t suffice.
Gabriel and Jake obliged either because of the intimidating tone of Lisa or because she was right. They paid their check and headed toward the nearby school, it was a five minute walk and on their way they saw several school mates like: Creepy Sally, Moonwalk Mike, and Daydream Dave. But the most unique or eccentric person as Jake says was Dog-Ace Pete, Dog-Ace is the resident owner of the apartment adjacent to the school. Dog-Ace is an avoided person, people find him weird and un-approachable due to his weird attire which always constituted of a brown trench-coat with what Is presumed Japanese writing, but that is not the most weird aspect of Dod-Ace, the weirdest aspect is his shady past, some say he was arrested for conducting illegal activities on his dog hence his name, others say that he believes that he was abducted by aliens and he attempts on every full moon to contact the aliens by howling like a dog, but the teens say that he just gets high on full moons and goes crazy.
When Jake and Gabriel reached the school each went in a separate direction, Gabe went to physics and Jake went to Biology. The first session was as it always was, people introducing themselves and the teacher stating the materiel that was going to be discussed upon the upcoming year and the material that was discussed the previous year.
First and second period sped by it was the regular first session class. Third period came and Gabe had chemistry. Gabe arrived at the chemistry class to find it almost full it was hard finding a place to sit but he eventually did, it was next to Daydream Dave. As class commenced the teacher introduced himself and announced that they will skip the introduction ceremony due to them all knowing each other from the previous year.
At the statement rumble and murmuring filled the hall as the teacher was about to stop it a girl entered the room.
Girl: Sorry I am late this is my first day here and I got lost.
Teacher: No problem, please introduce yourself.
Girl: My name is Lucy Lakat, I am from Russia and I moved here with my family to continue my studies.
Teacher: Well welcome Lucy to Staple High, please take a seat so I can proceed to teaching.
Lucy nodded and went to a nearby empty seat on her way she felt like she was being watched and she was being watched…by every male individual in the room, it was because of her fluid long blonde hair, her green colored eyes, and her perfect body, this caused Lucy to blush, this only added to her beauty.
As Lucy took her seat the teacher began explaining the contents of the course they will be discussing throughout the year, after a lengthy hour the teacher began dividing the students into pairs for the first semester.
Mike Blue and Theodore Long, Sammy Darwich and Kim Parker, Thompshon Riddle and Adam Saddler… The list continued until it reaches Gabriels name, Gabriel… and Lucy Lakat.
The boys in the class gave Gabriel furious and envy filled glares, while Gabriel felt the horror of communicating with someone as beautiful as Lucy . Daydream Dave noticed the horrid look on Gabe’s face an couldn’t help but laughing this caused Gabe to blush and Dave to get detention on the first day.
The following session passed fast and recess came, Gabe explained his situation to Jake who barely listened because he was eating some hamburgers. Recess passed and so did the following sessions it was last period and Gabe had chemistry again.
The teacher assigned to the class some experiments to perform, Gabe and Lucy ended up having to create a acid capable of melting through wood but not brick.
Gabe and Lucy worked silently on the solution only exchanging shy glares at each other, the time limit on creating the solution passed and the teacher came to see the solution of Gabe and Lucy, he gave them a F and asked who was responsible of adding the nitrate, Gabe said that he was, the teacher then explained to Gabe that he had added too much nitrate and made the solution unstable. In the process of the explanation the tube broke and the solution spilled on the table, the teacher instructed Gabe to clean the table hen class ended.
As the bell rang students poured out of the class except for Gabe who stayed behind to clean the mess he caused. As he was cleaning the table Jake entered and demanded that Gae came with him to his house so they can play some COD, Gabe hesitantly refused and explained his situation. Jake was about to leave when Lucy appeared and said she will clean the table.
Gabe: No Lucy, it was my fault you have nothing to do with it.
Lucy: N-No don’t worry I will clean it, my parents won’t be here for another half-hour, go enjoy with your friend.
Jake without hesitation grabbed Gabe and dragged him across the room toward the door knowing that Gabe would refuse the offer. When they reached the corridor Gabe finally managed to break lose out of Jake’s grip and was about to enter the class until the janitor came and caused them to go home. The janitor then saw Lucy and asked her what she was doing, she said she was cleaning the mess she caused, the Janitor allowed her to proceed.
Gabe then stook his head through the class door and said: Sorry for the bad grade and the mess.
Lucy said with a cute smile: No problem, and don’t worry nothing pleases me more than helping a fellow student.
Gabe smiled and left but those words held a greater meaning than Gabe understood.

Gabe smiled and left but those words held a greater meaning than Gabe understood.
