If I may post my opinion on the original post here..

We know for sure that Madara lost 'a left eye' using Izanagi to revive himself. If he had obtained EMS transplanting Izuna's eyes to himself, would that indicate that you will still keep the ability when switching to a 3rd set of eyes? Because it is stated that eye transfers are possible within close family members of the Uchiha Clan. Even so this begs the question as to how Kakashi's body didn't reject Obito's sharingan? They are clearly not even remotely related...

Anyway, if we agree that it was INDEED Madara who gave Nagato the Rinnegan, where did he get the right eye from? If he had killed an Uchiha, he would have taken both eyes. Still I think it was just convenient for Obito to have a right eye that Madara desired.

In the end we can all agree that Tobi = Obito and Madara = Madara.

I made another theory that covers the plothole discovered in this one. "Sharingan is not a requirement to awake Hagoromo's Rinnegan". The last doujutsu only needs the transmigrants chakra (Indra + Ashura). So as mentioned by Draxus, a blind eye doesn't necessarily mean an impossible in the moment of awakening.

But clearly you could even not be an Uchiha (while if you had Indra's chakra) and you could still awake the Rinnegan.

I think that by awakening the rinnegan from hashirama cells.... it rejuvenated his eye that had been blinded out from uzanagi... and he did it before death... so a lot of time passed before it turned from blind to rinnegan...

Valid point taken, though it is still illogical.

Using Occam's Razor, I'm infering the simplest case of both eyes having the same quality (EMS -which supposedly have light- can turn into Rinnegan). I won't start alluding to complicated cases such as the one you're bringing into the table (which makes sense, but is still way too complicated, and need further analysis -as for example, to prove that a blind sharingan can use chakra. If not, then Rinnegan is impossible to be awakened in a blind eye-).

Itachi's eyes were pretty much blind when they were implanted into Sasuke... doesn't seem like he has any problem seeing now, does he?
