My favourite was the 2011-2012 era. That won't come back just as the 2008-2010 era won't. NB changes as people grow up just as life changes. One day I will come back and NB won't be here anymore. Still will visit until I no longer am able to. Wish I had the free time like I used to but I'm married now and have a kid to watch over. The site will eventually change and when it does, activity will increase. Guess there needs to be a new 'Naruto.' A new popular show I guess.

No one is going to advertise the forum all the more so it wouldn't help to recruit more people. The only thing we all can do is to make this forum attractive, fun and friendly so people who come across this site would be interested to join the community.
People stay, some people leave, yes, but the problem is not lying within NB it is each person's choice.Complaing about bashing, trolling ect. is pointless without any solution. If you have real suggestion(s) how to attract more people, except advertising or make anime/manga site in general, please post them.
@This post will be long, but I hope all will take the time to read, thanks in advance.

I agree with you that if the guests get a good first time impression of the base when they enter, they're also more likely to stay and sign up. However, lets also keep in mind that forums tend to get many bots as well, and we honestly don't have a clue about how many of the guests are bots or not, it's hard to tell, but sometimes you can check the IP and if many guests share the same IP, they're most likely bots. That's also why bots can be annoying as hell, because they make people think they're actually getting many visitors, which is sad.

The only part where I disagree, is that the problem has something to do with Narutobase, and that's the harsh reality that we all need to accept. Narutobase does not have the same visibility from search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing etc) anymore, and the reason behind this is simple. We're still offering people to be able to watch Naruto, Boruto episodes and even download them through torrents. This is not legale, we all know, but this affects the site. It kills it to say it harsh.

Here is the reason why:

Ever since DMCA.com and similiar sites showed up things started to change. Sites that used to offer anime streaming and etc, all started disappearing from search engines. The sites themselves, didn't disappear, but search engines started to not show them, list them when people tried to search for it. DMCA.com and similiar sites offer companies like Crunchyroll, Funimation the opportunity to pay them in order to get sites (domains) blocked from search engines. Why does Crunchyroll and Funimation do this in the first place? Because they earn more money when there is less sites that offers free anime online.

I can write what I wrote above in a more simple version (using NB as an example):

Step 1:

Narutobase knows that in order to make people visit the site, we need something to offer them. You can implement a lot of things, but what truly spikes the visitor count is what people really want, and that's to be able to watch some latest episodes of Naruto or Boruto.

Step 2:

Narutobase decides to share Naruto and Boruto episodes, so people can watch it and continuesly visit the site. They see huge spikes in visitor count and a continues growth.

Step 3:

However, like we all know, good things never last forever. Companies like Crunchyroll and Funimation starts to lose lots of $$$ because no one buys their memberships, so they do their research and find out that people are able to watch nearly all the anime they offer online for free through a bunch of sites. The companies starts to get upset about this, so they want to stop those sites in whatever way possible. They go and scream for help, and guess who is there to save them? DMCA.com and similiar sites who offer site takedown for $$$. The companies give them a bunch of money, so they can file complaints, so search engines block sites like Narutobase and other sites who lets people watch anime for free.

Step 4:

Now that search engines got the message from DMCA and everything looks legit on their end, they have to act accordingly. They simply block the sites and make it almost impossible to find it again on search engines. You can find the site, if you search in the domain exactly, but not if you're trying to look up for content. For example before DMCA started to exist, and you wrote "Naruto forum or Naruto community" in google, Narutobase would be on the first page. Now you don't find it, why? Because we're under their bullseye, actually we're already shot and wounded.

Step 5:

Narutobase thinks nothing is wrong even though it's possible to see that the site is losing visitor count month after month, and the site ranking on alexa.com and similiar ranking sites is becoming worse and worse. However, we as members still refuse that there is something wrong because we believe it has something to do with "Naruto being a completed anime".

Site ranking stats:
You must be registered for see images
Conclusion:

We fail to realize that the site activity has nothing to do with Naruto anime being completed, but more the backend, technical part. Yet we tell ourselves that everything will be fine because now there is Boruto and once that starts to catch up, people will be coming here like crazy.... I enjoy the optimism, I love this place myself, I've visited the site from time to time during the long periode where I haven't been here, and I'd love to help this place out. Once an Narutobase member, always a member. However, we also need to do something about this. We can't continue and pretend that everything will be fine. Why? Because it won't be fine. As the amount of new members who are willing to be active and post is becoming less and less it leads to the point where there will be situations where those who do keep the place alive (the super active and try hard members) they start to lose interest slowly as well. Why? Because we're all drawn by each other. We welcome new people, show them around the place, answer their questions, and suddenly we see them becoming active, they motivate us, we motivate them. They keep us going, we keep them going. However, if there is no new members to keep us going, we will slowly get bored typing with the same people, there won't be enough people to sign up for the weekly contest, not enough people to keep the RP going... (I'm putting it up harsh, but don't take it personal, I do care about this place, otherwise I wouldn't have spent two hours writing this post).

If we want this place to get back on track, it's not that hard, it's simple. We need a new domain (a domain that targets a bigger audience, and not just a specific anime), we need to get rid of the illegal stuff (Naruto and Boruto streaming and Manga chapters). That way we're "fresh" once again and not blocked from search engines. We will slowly get ranked better and better on search engines as well and site activity starts to increase. I peronally like the place because of the community, not because I can watch Boruto here. That's also the reason why I signed up in the first place.

You probably wonder what the front-page should be replaced with if we do end up removing the streaming and manga. One idea could be turning it into a blog and people would be able to write interesting articles about anime. One thing that search engines love to crawl is blogs. They love blogs, because they are rich with quality content. Also, articles alone can generate huge amount of visitors. That way the members can help out as well, writing the articles..

We can do this together, but one thing that I ask is... Don't be afraid of change. This might end up saving us.

@ Thanks for reading the post, I hope you guys have a better idea of how things work now, and that we can stay strong and work together to help Narutobase grow once again.

An admin has already said that Mangabase won't happen: . Even if it happened I don't think it's a good idea as it will take the focus away from Boruto. I think it's too early to judge the series as it is in it's starting stages. It might get extremely popular in the future.

I think a mod also said that a lot of guest activity comes from the free anime and manga posted on the site. Remove those and all the guests will go elsewhere. What can be done is make an account mandatory to view the content to increase activity.

Narutobase needs to have the hype it had before. Nowadays its dull with some pretty stubborn debaters. There were a time when it was creative in debating and people werent so close minded those days. I think its changing now, the stubborn mentality somewhat. I hope it'll keep on changing.

Mangabase won't happen, that's for sure. Manga communities are nearly impossible to establish, unless you gather the best scanlating team, you make them scanlate latest chapters faster than any other manga sites out there and etc... Once you done that, you might start getting visitors, but then DMCA kicks in and the site would be as good as dead.

Targeting anime in general rather than a specific anime is far better. You make it clear to everyone that the place isn't just about a mainstream anime, it's about all the series out there. Imagine if 80% of our guests are potential members who would like to join an anime community that is not solely about Naruto and Boruto? They might get the impression that our community is only about Naruto and Boruto, so they think twice before even considering hitting the register button. Also don't forget that Discord is growing and other fancy communication softwares for online socialization, forums are therefore less used, and that means it's even harder now to even get regular users, so we need to be able to target that bigger audience. I could explain it like this... If you have a bigger net, you have a bigger chance to catch more fish. Plain and simple, it makes sense to target a bigger audience.

How would these guests know that we offer free anime and manga? If they can't see the content without being registered? You probably think we should just let them know on the front-page, writing a small message in a tiny cornor, but even that is traceable, and either way, DMCA will find out, and we're back to square one, domain blocked on search engines, no more visitors.

Also, keep in mind that majority of those guests are guests that come here regularly to watch anime. Narutobase stopped showing on search engines a while ago, so what good does these guests do to us? If they're regular visitors who haven't decided to register yet. Don't forget about the bots as well, we don't know how many of those guests are bots.

If you do the math, best way forward is to "start fresh", get rid of the free anime episodes and manga chapters (that's what got us into this in the first place), get a new domain and keep the forum as it is. Obviously in the beginning the visitor count is going to drop, but as we start to show up in search engines once again, we will get way more guests than we do right now because we won't be shut down again by DMCA.

Well it's a good idea but I doubt it would ever happen. Just so you know bold was what MangaBase intended. You can replace manga with anime but the intention is the same.

If there is a miracle and a change in domain happens, NB will be like the many generic anime sites out there. It would lose it's unique identity that is "Narutobase". I still don't think what you say is a good idea.

Like I have said in the past, the best option is to bridge the gap between the NDS community and the RP community like Onii Chan said and make RP the central focus.

About the free content it can be convenient to members? Don't really know I don't watch Boruto. Best to ask the NDS members.

@Gunjan: That's not a good idea as forum e-mails could be annoying and spammy to people who have left NB.

I established two communities, a manga one and an anime one, which one do you think ended up with most members? One of them ended up with 170k and the other with 4k. There is a difference, despite the fact that we both can agree that the intention was the same. It's just what people think.

I understand that, but the forum has gotten to a point that I myself would've never imagined it would come to. Site contests are not getting enough participants and the RP is slowly losing the active role-players because there is no new ones to battle, RP with.

The site has already been blocked on search engines, we are way past the point of no return if we wanted to continue with this domain. I'd have adviced to continue with the same domain if that wasn't case, and I would have used the same argument as you just did, but the place has no visibility no more. It's slowly turning into a desert. If we continue like this, it's going to get worse. If we don't continue like this and take our chances, we're more likely to success. We just need the visibility from search engines once again.
