When you see Minato being able to create a whole 'nother realm of existence, or being able to essentially eat souls, OR drag souls from the dead, and force them to do his bidding, then we can talk about genius. Not to mention Orochimaru was able to decipher the Uchiha tablet without the Sharingan, AND he was able to tell Tsunade mixed Kabuto's brain signals with a couple glances. Then he was able to fully utilize Hashirama's cells (which he literally had, for seconds)
