Yona has purple eyes and originally a long wavy hair. Later on, when she was confronted by Kang Tae-Jun, she sliced her hair off to prevent capture. Now, Yona wears her hair short, which is slowly growing back. Her current outfit is made up of a white gown and a red vest with yellow and black borderlines with a sash tied around her waist. She often wears a cape with a hood to hide her full appearance, particularly the color of her red hair. She is also never without a pair of elegant, long earrings.

She is very adaptable, has a sweet demeanor, and has a big sense of conviction. On her journey she shows an absolutely willingness to learn ninjutsu, but she can still be idealistic even if she realizes that it's harder than it sounds. She can be selfish and demanding of others in her pursuits, first noted when Yoon scolded her for not thanking him in taking care of Hak though she shows appreciation of others through her travels.

Yona is the sole daughter of Il, a rich merchant who previously resided in Konohagakure . Her mother was assassinated when she was young, leaving her in the care of her kind and loving father, Il.
From an early age, she had a crush on Soo-Won, although her feelings were never returned, as Soo-Won only saw her as a little sister. For her first sixteen years, it is seen that Yona grew up without a care in the world, never knowing of strife or unhappiness, save for her mother's death.
On her 16th birthday she was forced to flee her village after her father was murdered.
While traveling she becomes aware of her ignorance, she gradually makes it her life's purpose to protect as many of her people as she is able to.
