I believe that he is dead. The mentor is always killed so the pupil can surpass his master and defeat the bad guy. It's how stories go. Jiraiya is one of my favorite characters but he is gone. Gonna just have to remember the good times we've had with him and move on. (tear *sniffle*)

Yea and next you guys are going to say the code refers to him casue it wasn't really him... no he's dead. they wouldn't have used all of that time in flashbacks and his mind bringing to his final thoughts if it was a clone. and besides that he was hit around so if it was a clones wouldn't it have dissapeered? Kishi even said he died so that naruto grew up... And for my final reason, what reason does he have for hiding in the shadows? why wouldn't he tell konoha if he knew peins secret though if you want to belive he is alive watever...

Trust me, he's dead.
People don't come back when they die in Naruto, never have, never will.
Itachi will never come back, Asuma will never come back, Sandaime will never come back and just like the rest, Jiraiya will NEVER come back.
And no disrespect for people who are Miggy theory fans, but it's been proven false.
He wasn't a shadow clone, he was just controlling the Rain ninjas body via Shadow Possession Jutsu.

It happens in every anime!
It happened with Yusuke and Genkai in YuYu Hakusho, it happened with The Bride in Kill Bill [Although not an anime], and now it's happening with Naruto.
He's gone, it's time to look towards the future.

Yeah, Jiraiya died in his battle with Pein. He's against the Reinegan, so there's really not much to think of. Reinegan is still the strongest eye possessions. Besides, 2 toad summons of Jiraiya confirmed it to Naruto and Kakashi (If i'm not mistaken, i think it was Gamakichi and Pa who comfirmed his death). He sacrificed his life to discover Pein's secret (which until now remains secret to readers).
