It baffles me why people think of byakugan as a little comparison to the sharingan, when it's evolutions are equal to it.

What you're implying is that a byakugan user can actually obtain this new eye by fufilling natural requirements like MS/EMS. You may be right about Jougan, considering Bolt awakened it without Byakugan, but Tenseigan was awakened by Hamura and Toneri by first having Byakugan, so that is a natural evolution like Mangekyo Sharingan.
