The moment I picked up the series and saw Tsunade arguing with Homura and Koharu, I began equating her with the Iron Lady herself. She's a brilliant leader and the greatest healer seen thus far in the series, going as far as healing Sasuke's psychological wounds after experiencing Tsukuyomi. Also, I've never understood why people say Orochimaru and Jiraiya beat her. Toad beats slug. Slug beats snake. Snake beats toad. It's a way of saying the Sannin are equal to each other, that was always supposed to be apparent. People are just upset that the "new Hokage" doesn't spew wood if you know what I mean or spawn everywhere on the battlefield instantaneously.
In my opinion, however, Tsunade is better at support than fighting. While I'm sure she can use different element release ninjutsu, she's only displayed nintaijutsu. I believe she made the right choice during the Pein Invasion; you simply work with whatever you were given. Although the other Hokages would've done a good job during the Invasion, possibly taking out a few bodies themselves, they most likely would've suffered a larger number of casualties. And the village is a Hokage's first priority.
