It is not plothole and it is easy to explain, here I go:

1. you need to have Water and Earth release
2. you need to be able to combine Water & Earth release( that is kkg which is rare and make it so hard to do)

That all, You are just looking too much into this. The reason that Juubi is made of wood release or can use it is due to connection with God Tree. All KKG are op if used with special chakra.

The Senjuu clan was op in general due to strong Yang release affinity, just like Uchiha has for Yin release affinity.

It is same with Tobirama's Water release being more OP then other water release, due to power/strnegth of chakra which led to yang chakra.

The power/strength of chakra aka strong yang release is the reason why Hashirama's chakra was so strong in compare to Yamato or even Danzo.

Summary: Hashirama's yang chakra is very strong. Mokuton in essence is the KKG that the Juubi is made of. So to inherit it, one must have a very strong Yang chakra. Which Hashirama Senju possessed. (Has nothing to do with being Ashura's reincarnation).

So I was right. Yang is practically life like when Naruto's KCM had made plants come out of Yamato's wooden pillar... thank you.
