The Assassin

~Poem~ ^_^

In the edge of darkness, obscured from sight;
Calm and cool, the approach of twilight.

He bares not, his sword in vain;
Securely sheathed, he does refrain.

Ever searching, are his eyes;
Incessantly wary, beneath their guise.

Those before him, live unaware;
A numb existence, absent of care.

The quiet shadows slightly comfort;
Offering friendship, of a lonely sort.

A silent sigh escapes his core;
The faintest breath, his no more.

The shoreward breeze, brings him pause;
What’s his commitment to this cause?

A distant sound, gives birth to cries;
Jagged and piercing, announcing demise.

Precisely drawn, with a metallic ring;
Blade now free, it briefly sings.

Vision limited, mind entranced;
Muted footsteps, signal advance.

A flick of the wrist, a deadly slice;
The soiled blade, cold as ice.​

It's a little of both... the title leaves it up to interpretation because maybe the target deserved to die.

That's why it's left up to interpretation... In some cultures, family members of murdered victims will often take it upon themselves to seek out and kill the person who murdered their family member. Kind of like how Sasuke became an avenger because his family was killed, yet they are still an assassin because they are taking the person's life for reasons other than self-defense or defense of others.
