Sony had to reboot (not remake) the film series, because the director from the orignal trilogy left, and the main cast followed, sony had to put out a spidey movie by the end of 2012, or they would loose the film rights, since the original cast left, they couldnt continue the original film series, they had to do the only logical and obvious choice, and that is reboot the film series, (not remake)
