Chapter XXI: Dread Tower
Two days passed quickly and evening set in as Roku, Goro, Hiruzen, Ace, and Akira set out from the local inn which they were staying. The sun was just beginning to set, preparing for the night. The evening sky took on a red and orange color, as was its nature. Roku’s team was approaching something that looked like a huge metal tower. There was barbed wire charged with electricity surrounding the perimeter for quite a good distance. It wasn’t a giant metal tower. It was a prison. Ace read the sign.
Ace: Site 13: Dread Tower
Roku: Sounds intimidating O_O
Akira: So…this is the prison where Kyle is?
Roku: Yeah. I can’t feel his Energy, but I’m certain this is where he is.
Goro: Why’s that?
Roku: Dread Tower is one of the most dangerous prisons in the Land of Lightning, and it’s where war prisoners from Konoha are primarily kept.
Goro: Interesting…o_o
Hiruzen: So, let’s go then. Whatever’s so dreadful about this tower can’t be a match for us.
Roku’s group walked toward Dread Tower, but they were suddenly stopped at the gate by a sinister presence. Akira looked around suspiciously.
Roku: What’s this feeling?
Akira: I sense it too…it’s like a cloud of darkness just surrounded us. Yet strangely…
???: That’s the effect of Dread Tower. :|
Ace: That voice? O-o
The speaker suddenly appeared in front of Roku’s team through what seemed to be a rift in time/space. The rift remained open for a moment, and another stepped out. Their right foot came first, and something looked vaguely familiar about the one that stepped out. As the person’s body started to come out, it became apparent who it was. Finally, the person stepped completely out of the rift just as it closed. He was very young, but he seemed to have matured slightly. His hair was green and longer than before, still a bit spiky but now it was almost shoulder length and more loose. His eyes were no longer green, but instead, they had taken a dark grey color. He had no headband, but his allegiance was clear by the Kumogakure flak jacket/vest he now wore. Everyone looked in surprise. Before them stood Gatsndshanks and their old teammate, Kiwii.
Ace: Kiwii O_O
Hiruzen: That little bastard. What’re you doing with Gats?!
Gatsndshanks: We were told to intercept you guys here. I don’t like this kid very much, but orders are orders. :|
Kiwii: -.-
Goro: Kiwii! Do you know what you’ve gotten yourself into?!
Kiwii remained silent. Ace clenched his fist, filled with anger, and he drew a kunai but was suddenly yielded by Gatsndshanks.
Gatsndshanks: Not so fast! ……take a good look. You’ll notice that we didn’t just plan on fighting you guys 5 against 2. :|
Suddenly, beams of red light hit Roku, Hiruzen, Goro, Ace, and Akira like lasers, but did not hurt them. They were beams for targeting, and they came from hundreds of shinobi hiding in the distance, prepared to deliver hundreds of finishing blows.
Gatsndshanks: Cool huh :| I call them Chakra snipers. If you so much as move, they’ll take you out instantly. *scratches head* ~_~
Goro: Damn…we’re out of luck here. *looks up* Roku-san, what do you do?
Roku: Just hold still…you three just surrender…for now.
Gatsndshanks:
(What now?)
Kiwii: …
Akira: How many are there?
Roku: I’m counting 128…think we can take them all in 1 second?
Akira: If you’re referring to Light Rider…then yes. I’ll take 65 and you take 63.
Roku: Why do you get one more than me
Akira: Because I’m just that awesome. O_O
Roku: Alright then…we’ll make it a race.
Roku and Akira formed a single handseal simultaneously. Gats glared at them and raised his hand. Suddenly, Akira and Roku glowed with a bright yellow color. Their bodies retained color, but they seemed to be made out of particles instead of solid bonds.
Roku and Akira: Light Release: Light Man.
Gatsndshanks: Fire…-_-
Roku and Akira: Light Rider!
The moment Gats gave the signal to fire, a blazing whirlwind of light energy surrounded the group and beams of bright light raged through the area from almost every direction. Gats was amazed, but Kiwi became infuriated. Instantly, the beams of light that targeted Goro, Hiruzen, and Ace disappeared and the screams of 128 ninja snipers sounded in a synchronized harmony. Roku and Akira reappeared in their original positions after about 1 second. Roku smirked and then Gats was suddenly knocked into the air. Following up, Akira sent him crashing into the ground with a powerful spinning kick from above. Roku and Akira regrouped and deactivated their technique.
Roku: Whew…looks like we tied it up.
Akira: Yeah…
Goro: Nice move O_O Now let’s get into this prison.
Kiwii: You aren’t getting past me. >=|
Hiruzen:
Goro: Looks like this kid learned a few jokes. Kiwii, do we have to remind you how unfortunate you are to be facing us, who are all stronger than you.
Kiwii: From an ignorant one such as yourself, Goro-san, I don’t need a reminder. I’ve become more powerful than any of you.
Roku: Kiwii, you really are quite the jokester. But seriously, we don’t have time for this. Step aside.
Kiwii stopped his right foot and a large fissure suddenly opened up beneath Roku and his team. Their eyes widened. The chasm was huge, dark, and instantaneous. Kiwii smiled to himself and waved goodbye. His jutsu speed had multiplied substantially. It was unreal. Goro, Hiruzen, Roku, Ace, and Akira all fell into the chasm, screaming. Goro thought quickly! He clapped his hands together and puffed up his cheeks.
Goro: Doton: Doryūheki! (Earth Release: Earth Style Wall)
Goro spit mud against the side of the chasm walls, causing a large wall of earth to rise out horizontally. Everyone landed on the wall safely.
Akira: Nice quick thinking Goro. Although that kid…he’s really good now.
Goro: No way Kiwii is that good. No matter what kind of training he underwent, it still wouldn’t be enough for him to use such a powerful jutsu so quickly. Not even I can do that.
Roku: This jutsu wasn’t Kiwii’s. It was Gats’. That wasn't Kiwii's chakra...
Ace: So Gats used it to throw us off?
Hiruzen: Probably. Either way, we won’t fall for the same trick again.
Ace: But how did Kiwii know when to stomp his foot.
Roku: It would seem they share some sort of empathetic link.
Goro: O_O An empathy link? Why?
Roku: Probably so they could battle us in perfect unison. Regardless, we can’t waste time facing them. Our job is to free Kyle from this prison. We can get past them, but someone needs to hold them off.
Goro: I’ll fight them. You all go along.
Roku: Alright Goro. Good luck.
Goro: I don’t need it.
The team leaped out of the fissure and landed in a pentagon formation with Akira at the front, Roku and Hiruzen at the two forward points, and Goro and Ace at the back.
Kiwii: You escaped?! O_O
Goro: Don’t underestimate us.
Akira held his two hands out, the left aimed at Gats and the right aimed at Kiwii.
Akira: Yin Yang Dual Chakra Blast!
An overwhelming blast of black yang energy burst forth from Akira’s left hand at Gats and a powerful blast of white yin energy burst forth from Akira’s right hand toward Kiwii. He started to run toward the prison’s entrance as the blast continued. Roku rushed behind him, creating two walls of energy between Kiwii and Gats. Hiruzen and Ace followed behind him quickly and the four made it into the prison just as the blasts ended. Gats and Kiwii were mostly unharmed save for a few cuts and scratches. Only Goro remained.
Kiwii: They got away.
Gatsndshanks: Eh, no problem. O_O We’ll just finish them when they get out. :| Let’s deal with Goro.
???: Hey! You know, two on one isn’t fair.
A familiar face leaped down from the trees, wielding several swords and multiple sheathes for each one. He was wearing a samurai robe that was white and hand an array of green lotus flowers on it. He drew his katana quickly. Goro chuckled. Kiwii squinted.
Goro: You recovered pretty quickly. O_O
Caliburn: What’re you talking about? My wounds were pretty minor. Sure my movements are a bit sloppy, but once I warm up, I can let loose again. *looks at Kiwii* Well, well, if it isn’t the traitor.
Kiwii: …
Goro: He’s pretty quiet for a traitor. Care to help me take these two on?
Caliburn: Of course…and it’s okay. If he doesn’t wish to speak, let him not speak. He chose his path. Let him face the consequences.
Gatsndshanks: Kiwii, you ready? :|
Kiwii nodded. Caliburn laughed a little and then spoke very casually.
Caliburn: Then let’s get going…

Kirabi looked out his window, distressed about something. He touched his chest where his heart would be located. It was beating regularly, but there was almost an echo with each beat. Kirabi took a deep breath...
Kirabi: This fool's getting stronger in me...If I don't keep him back......*sigh* who knows...
