Chapter XIV: All that Remains
The stars in the sky were brightly shining, and the Raikage’s tower, hoisted high into the clouds, had the best view of the spectacle. Kirabi, in his chair, turned toward the door amusingly. Before him stood two guards, Nexus, TenzoX, Izuna, and Kiwii.
Kirabi: So, you all failed to destroy the Sages but you managed to successfully comprehend the strength of the Sages and steal a scroll of the ancients. But…you didn’t finish them off? O-o
Izuna: No…an unexpected nuisance came and hindered me from using the technique.
Kirabi: No matter. I will keep the scroll and use it for another goal. Yeah…
*shrugs*
Kiwii: ………If I may ask, what would that be?
Nexus glared at Kiwii, shifting his eyes as if to say that he shouldn’t have spoken out.
Kirabi: *smirks*…to wipe out all of Sunagakure.
Kiwii: O__O
Kirabi: Nexus, TenzoX, I want you two out of my sight. I need to talk to these two.
Nexus and TenzoX bowed and walked out of the room. The two guards shut the doors after them.
Kirabi: So, Kiwii…you betrayed Roku’s group to help me. Why?
Kiwii: I was tired of being useless. I want more power, and I want to show them all what I can do. And then, nobody will look down on me ever again!
Kirabi: Like I would’ve said years ago, you’re a foolish kid ya’ know O_O

Kirabi: So, you wanna be of use to me. Then I’ll show you some cool secret jutsu. And when you’re done training, I’ll send you after Roku’s group to eliminate them. But you won’t be the only one training. Gats!!
Kirabi’s desk suddenly shifted to the left. The ground opened up, revealing a secret passage guided down by a staircase. A man walked up the steps and smirked, bowing before Kirabi. He had short and spiky dark grey hair, but he was still young. He had a five o’clock shadow from training all night.
Gatsndshanks: Yes, Kirabi-sama…you got something for me?
Kirabi: A new training partner. His name’s Kiwii…you two have fun together, and take it easy. It is after all his first day *laughs*
Kiwii: o_o
Gatsndshanks: Sure…
Kiwii followed Gats into the secret training area. Then, the area shut and everything shifted back into place. Izuna looked at Kirabi lazily.
Izuna: What’s the plan?
Kirabi: We’ll wait for the Sages to make their move. They won’t be able to stop our defenses easily unless they have a village to back them, and with Sunagakure out of the picture and no Hokage to run Konohagakure, we will finish them quite easily. But, just in case, I want you to call in the 100 Stone Army.
Izuna: Them, huh? O_O A team of the most elite Jounin and Chunin in all of Iwagakure. That will be a most difficult thing to convince the Tsuchikage to let me do…or at least, so it will seem *smirks*
Kirabi: Their power rivals that of the Kinkaku force; however, since there are so many, the Sages will have their hands full dealing with them.
Izuna: I’ll get to it. *disappears in a cloud of smoke*
Guard 1: o_o Raikage-sama, what should we do now…since we just saw…that. Do you want us to relay the information to the elders?
Kirabi turned furiously to the guards.
Kirabi: Who gave you permission to speak?!
Guard 1: ._. *gulp*
Kirabi pointed his finger at the Guard on the right of the door, shooting a beam of lightning so fast that the guards could not even perceive its origin, resulting in it piercing the guard’s heart. He gripped his staff in his right hand and turned that guard to nothing but blood and guts with a quick burst of energy. Kirabi then turned to the guard on the left and held his hand out, controlling the guard telekinetically. He pulled the guard over toward him and grabbed his neck.
Kirabi: You should know that you aren’t allowed to speak out without permission.
Guard 2: Don’t kill me, please!
Kirabi: You see…once again, without permission.
Guard 2: you…you’re a tyrant. Mizutoki-sama would’ve never stood for this kind of action.
Kirabi tightened his grip on the guard’s neck.
Guard 2: Ack!! You…you may have merged with him and absorbed him in you…but you’re nothing but an evil….bastard!
Kirabi: True, I absorbed Mizutoki’s essence. And though some remnant of Mizutoki may still linger in my form of speech, the thing that sets us apart is our motives…he has none…I do.
Kirabi crushed the guard’s neck and turned him to dust promptly.

MEANWHILE
It was now about 7:00 A.M. The sun was just rising above the horizon, and Roku and his group walked frivolously as the new day dawned.
Caliburn: So, what exactly is this hall of the Ancients?
Roku: It’s more of a library than anything. It contains a vast amount of ancient knowledge, like an enormous archive of history. The only thing is the Hall’s path is in the form of a seemingly endless road made entirely of ancient rock with walls of books lined up parallel to the way the road runs. At the end is the true Hall of the Ancients, where all of the most covert intelligence is kept in millions of scrolls.
Caliburn: Sounds like a challenge…
Ace: No kidding
Roku: Well, the real problem lies in getting to the True Hall. In order to safeguard it from intruders, only one person may enter at once, and the only way to enter is to unlock the locks of the ancients, and they can be completely random in shape and structure.
Goro: How do you do that? O_O
Akira: Hehe…that’s the funniest part. You guys can’t O_O

Roku: Potential Sages are trained in the art of chakra control and elemental essence so that they have a deep understanding of chakra interactions. Well, the Ancients used a form of energy that was very much unlike chakra and instead revolved around the utilization of the readily available energy of the planet. The Ancients mastered this to such a degree that their power far surpassed the capabilities of our current ninjutsu and could be used for almost anything, unlike ninjutsu’s limited supply of energy. Hiruzen: What happened to them?
Roku: The Ancients died off…as the spiritual and somewhat literal ancestors of the Sages, their teachings followed us and their ideals, their vision of a perfect world in which all would be in harmony with nature no matter what we did, continued to transcend generations. The truth is, a pair of two Ancients developed a strong lust for power over the course of their lives and they constantly did evil things to produce a new power, but they failed. It was a man and a woman, and they had a child together. Their constant attempts to create something of a darker nature ended up filling the planet with the devastating poison of hatred that soon consumed people. The child, however, followed the true way of the Ancients, so he was taken away. The child was trained in the ways of the Ancients by his parents, but their distorted methods led him to believe that there was something more meant for this world. The child’s parents died after many failed attempts and left their research to their son, but when the son read their findings, he realized a way to make a power form of such evil intent into something good. That child was the Sage of Six Paths O_O

Roku: But Chakra is like the two sides of a coin. There’s good and evil chakra. The chakra that poisoned the Earth’s rich energy long ago was evil chakra, and has since caused the Earth’s pure energies to become highly difficult to harness. The Sage understood this, but even he couldn’t stop it from corrupting the shinobi world forever. The Earth’s immense evil chakras gave birth to what you now know as the Tailed Beasts, and what they knew then as the original tailed beast: Jubi, The Vile. O_O A nasty creature with more power than anything on the planet and chakra so foul it was said to have turned innocent bystanders into rotted corpses just by looking at them. The feat of sealing the beast went down in history as the most amazing feat in history, for it marked the creation of the Moon. Thanks to the Sage, most of the Earth’s energies were purified, but the Ancients lost all of their power because a large amount of the earth’s energy was used up in the usage of the massive Chibaku Tensei. It became much more difficult to harness the Earth’s energy, and the power of the Ancients was forever lost. The Sage’s triumph would’ve marked an unending era of peace in the world, but his sons gave rise to two different ideals which once again poisoned the shinobi world. His sons were, at the time of his death, the two wisest and most respected people in the world, but the elder son’s belief of power being the key to peace corrupted others and the ideal grew into what soon became a chain of hatred and war. The younger son, of course, played his role in this by fighting with his brother, but due to this, the Ancient’s abilities are not to be harnessed ever again. Thus, it’s strange that Kirabi managed to use a technique like theirs. O_O
Caliburn: But the problem still lies how we are to enter the Hall.
Roku: Unless you can create a power like that of the ancients, you will never be able to enter. Of course, the Kiyoshi Clan Pure Chakra and true Energy ability works so similarly to the Ancients’ power that it is completely compatible with the locks. Everyone else, however, won’t be able to enter. So, Goro, Hiruzen, and Ace, you three will guard the library because from our intel, we know it’s very close to a prison. Akira, Caliburn, and I will go into the Hall and be out as soon as we can. Got it?
Everyone stopped walking for a moment and looked ahead as the sun continued to rise above the horizon.
All: Got it…
Akira smirked and took the lead.
