George Washington set the example that a President should serve only a maximum of 2 terms. he set that example because some say, or maybe he had even said it himself, that a President shouldnt serve more then 2 terms. all the presidents after Washington folloed his example..

then FDR being a douche served 4 terms like wtf?! so then they made that rule that a president can only serve 2 terms because more then 2 is too much for one person to have all that power.. its argueable that 8 years isnt sufficient enough for a person to do good by the country and try to change things. but also its dangerous to give a person with presidential powers and give him the oppurtunity to be commander in chief for unlimited terms- like someone said before imagine what would happened if Bush or Nixon would have tried that and succeeded?!

and the people truly dont elect the presidents, lol

but yes the time of a person holding the most powerful office in the world has to be limited by something, weather 2 or 3 terms is debatable and yes some presidents deserved 4 more years, but then again some never deserved to be elected sooo ...

Not true. He tried to create laws which allowed him to control other parts of the gov't. they were all eventually shot down, but he still managed to appoint his friends to the supreme court anyway. He was basically a dictator. You really only know what you're fifth grade text book told you, try reading an 8th grade one, this is all common knowledge.

Uh dude. US history comes in 11th grade... and more importantly US Goverment comes in 12th grade.. =].

Made laws that were approved by the branches.. And you can't just appoint your friend in the current goverment. You need to have all the premission. FDR was needed at that point. Sorry, if you think he is a dictator but again.. for Stabilization of a country 1 leader is needed. FDR stayed within the limits of Democracy. Infact he suggest to Churchill to set India free. Notice how your making it sound like he served like it wasn't the people's choice. lol. The majority wanted him. why? Because he was needed.

And i hope you know George Washington retired from politics after that. =]. And it was his choice.. But he also said to stay neutral and not make alliances... yet wth did we do??? lmao. Buddy if you wanna bring the past Commander-in-chief of the American Army (Who had military experience), then you have to follow all the laws he said to follow. =]. someone missed the point.. i was explainging where the idea to serve a 2 term came from.. and thank you for clearifying but yea Washington did serve 2 terms and then retired and this act inspired presidents after him to just serve 2 years until FDR ran for 4.

and i am not going to argue with you about FDR, again you are missing the point. whether FDR was great or bad, no one should be in power for that long because the risk of a bad person having that much power is too much. it turned out FDR wasnt bad as pres but like others have said imagine Nixon or Bush having more then 2 terms...

Noone should be in power for that long?? uh no wonder this world is turning into hell. A country can't even pick a leader to lead it.

Nixon and BUSH COULDN'T HAVE MORE THEN 2 TERMS....why?? because the public was against them.. And if the public is against them they can be taken down from the presidency.. that is the difference between a dictator and a president.. It is not the number of terms.

Was the rest of the goverment dead when the president made its move?? I hope you do know in this government the president can't do crap without having the support of the whole Government.


People in charge got scared because they didn't want the president getting higher..

In the United states Legislative branch and Judicial branch > Executive branch.

What FDR did was give more power to the president, so the president can make some decisions, because before that the president did not have that much power. Why presidents can't do crap in 8 years is because of the 3 branch system.. which requires MORE then 8 years to be effective.
