Ah, yes. This jutsu are mere explosions - however, the enemy can not see it coming so they're excellent for a surprise jutsu.

i do indeed xD
*takes a deep breath inwards and starts building up my katon chakra, turning the air into gas. i then sharply exhale and ignite the gas as it exits my mouth creating a huge fireball, sending it towards your clone*

Very basic. Used to defend against regular Wind attacks.
Next one...
Please proceed to create a fireball in the same way you've done before. However, focus your chakra into the middle of this fireball to give it an explosive nature.

Short range? Wouldn't you be affected by the jutsu too? >_> Long range to border mid-range might be the best place.
Actually, remember when Deidara used his Clay Clone? He was focusing all his chakra into the middle, so when the pressure is released, everything explodes outwards at once, thus causing destruction.
So that's the general idea of the jutsu - you will learn a stronger one later on to combo.
For this next one...

*inhales and builds up katon chakra as always, and goes through the motions of creating a Katon jutsu, i then exhale and ignite the gas, but as i do so, i split the fireball into thre components, sending them at your clone, just before they reach your clone, i recombine them into one large fireball. destroying your clone and the surrounding area*

is it because the three fireballs act as a distraction, but combining them at the end creates a larger mass/destructive force instead of a single fireball?
Yes, exactly. Like I explained in our Ninjutsu thread, seeing one attack coming at you highly differs than seeing one hundred, no? Your focus will definitely be divided and enemies can take advantage of such a thing.
And especially with the ending of this justu - the huge blast is a completion to the surprise element of this attack. Nicely said.
We are nearly done with Fire. For this next one, please proceed to spit out Fire Chakra once again in the form of gas (free-flowing molecules). Then, guide this ash towards my clone, causing it to surround him.
When it does so, give you and I time to run away...then click your teeth and cause the ash to explode!

what jutsu sets up Kirin? just wondering.
*inhales and builds up chakra, turning it into gas again, but when i exhale i don't set it alight, i let the gas envelope your clone. we then retreat to a safe distance. while running i accidentally click my teeth, causing the gas to explode sending myself flying forwards past you (you were ahead of me)*
