This sort of thing is becoming all to common. Im sure most policeman, dont mean to do it. But it is the result of the training and procedures. Basically they are being taught more or less the opposite of the justice system(innocent until proven guilty).
The police are taught innocent until suspected guilty.
Go watch that station that broadcasts policemen. If you notice, most of the guys seem to have good intent. But they are SO ROUGH, and VIOLENT. I understand, that they are trained that way to reduce the chance of injury.
This is not a police that treats its citizens properly.
This incident shouldve had the officer useing a taser, instead of bullets, for a situation like this. (which honestly, there shouldve been no reason for the officer to have weapons drawn anyways.)
The KID went to the door and asked who is it. He simply opened the door to see who it was/let them in. And he was shot.
To me it sounds like the officer approached the door with gun drawn, and had a finger on the trigger(which is a gun safety no no. You have your finger off the trigger unless you intend on shooting, and rest it on the trigger guard or alongside the barrel)
So it sounds like it is both a combination, of treating a person who merely answers the door as if a dangerous hardened criminal(haveing weapon drawn, and raised), and haveing improper training(haveing the finger on the trigger)
Both the above is assumed. I assume that as soon as the kid opened the door he was shot.(by a accidental reflex by the officer)
If the above is true, then in my opinion 2 things are needed.
One is the police department, needs to not be approaching a home which they intend to talk peacefully, with weapons drawn.(a person on parole, wont be dumb enough to just shoot police officers who knock on the door. He may threaten, but he wouldnt shoot on sight.(as such no reason to have weapons drawn)
2 is that the officer needs to have better training, regarding her gun safety. She clearly(again im under the assumption of the above 2 things), needs to not have her finger on the trigger.
I think the officer is a victim, of the police training and methods. I do not think she meant to shoot him. I think that she had some poor gun safety(again I am makeing assumptions on the assumption, that she did not just draw gun and shoot after seeing the wiimote, but she already had the weapon drawn). I think she is also the victim of the police training, where they pretty much treat everyone as a potential lethal criminal.
It is sad though that this kid died. And the officer should certainly be put on suspention for a while, and have some retraining.(again assumeing the event went the way I think it did, and that it was more a result of police training, or lack of)
Seriously watch the police show sometime. They can be really brutal. You will see that they are being taught more of "shoot first ask questions later(usually shooting involves a taser)"
Perhaps that is just a tv bias, where they only focus on the more brutal clips. But regardless, when you are taseing someone who is bleeding heavily after flipping their car speeding in a chase, who is clearly unarmed, and barely able to crawl out of their vehicle....that is too far.....regardless.
I wish the best for this kids family, and if the officer didnt have bad intent(which it seems like), that she can learn to get over this unfortunant event.
