Before I make my point, please bear with me and read this extract of an kishi interview.
I have provided the link for those who want to read all of it:

UZUMAKI Naruto Artbook: Kishimoto Masashi Interview
Translated by Pazuzu

You may use this on your site, as long as you ask me first, give credit when you
do put it up, and keep everything intact, including this note. I spent too much
blood, sweat and tears on this to have it randomly thieved.

Notes: There's a few footnotes scattered through the interview. I've removed the
ones that are English terms aimed at Japanese speakers such as "RPG" and
"animator", and added in a couple of my own for Japanese terms.

---

Special Long Interview

The author personally relates, UZUMAKI, the 8 keywords.

The book is made up of 8 keywords. To understand these better, we have
scheduled a direct interview with Kishimoto-sensei! The secrets of the design of
Uzumaki come one after another!!

KEYWORD:
*Konohagakure no Sato*
Guns and vehicles shouldn't be drawn.

- Well, well, we reach the final keyword. The main stage of "Naruto",
"Konohagakure no Sato".(*6) To you, what image do you have of this place? For
example, was it modeled on the scenery around your parents' home in Okayama(*7)?

K: That's right. To be honest, I didn't think much about this, and got a lot on
my inspiration there. Maybe it was subconsciously modeled on Okayama's scenery.

- What kind of time period did you set it in? If it was in the distant past,
then covenience stores wouldn't be there...

K: It's not really any different to present-time. Though possibly a little in
the past, maybe?

- What kind of place is it? Is it Japan? If so, what prefecture...?

K: It's a completely original place. I didn't set it anywhere. A place inside my
own head... If anything, the climate and topography resemble that around Kyoto.
As I've never been to Kyoto, it's my own image of it. (laugh)

- What material did you use for it?

K: I like Japanese culture, and since I studied it, I used a lot of material
from that. Crests and folding fans... I often look at Japanese-style gardens and
watch Kabuki.

- Do you have any rules about what is definitely not allowed to be drawn in the
"Naruto" world?

K: Firstly, projectile weapons such as guns aren't allowed. (The one exception
is Inari's bowgun.) Guns aren't suited to ninja. Gunpowder is used in the anime,
though I don't think it should be there. And, vehicles such as aeroplanes are
not allowed. I try to restrain technology that can be used for war... For
example, if missiles were in it, it'd be the end. (laughs)

- Well, thank you very much for everything today.

K: Thank you very much!
Shonen Jump Interview:

Shonen Jump:Your work seems to have a science fiction influence. Approximately speaking what is the technology level in the world of Naruto?

Masashi Kishimoto: Actually, the world of Naruto doesn’t differ very much from our present time. TV, refrigerators and air conditioners exist in the world. The only exceptions are weapons and explosives, which I’ve decided to set in a much earlier era. That’s why you don’t see firearms.

So now for the discussion:

1 - Why would he completely contradict himself by drawing missiles as one of Peins body?s main weapon?

2 - After seing Nagato?s spider like bot, I wonder how far he is being influenced or has changed his mind over the years.

3 - Some arcs in the anime are definitely killing Naruto. Filler episodes stand out like a sore thumb to me. They don?t look or feel natural to the flow of the story. It doesn?t have that kishi feel to it. Maybe he does give some input or draws bounderies, but basically I don?t think there is much he can do.

Please give your input on this one.

Peace.

1 - Is that a missile or a big transmitter? I never saw it as a missile. And transmitters are allowed, yamato uses one with his clone when he's watching over Kabuto.

2 - I think I'm not getting what you mean, please explain, anything looking as something that comes from nature is usually included, that would inclkude spiders and webs.

3 - You're right on this one, but this happens in every anime. Some fillers have been worst as regards to the manga in Bleach.

About explosives, the ones in the manga are made with chakra (like Naruto's explosive balls). They are not grenades, for instance.

I am talking about Pein?s invasion when something (which seems like a missile to me) is being launched from one of Pein?s bodies and then explodes. Also from what we have seen, the chakra receivers all look like black rods and this looked completely different. Sorry, but I?m at work so can?t I find the manga chapter right now.

Actually I meant that the spider thing looks like a mechanical robot which kinda ruins the whole ninja atmosphere in my opinion. Ok, so Kishi did say tvs and refrigerators were allowed so tech wise it would be plausible.

Yeah I know it does and it completely ruins the story. If they were using the fillers to give some more insight to the characters or really develop the story then it woud be ok. But it clearly is a money-anime doesn?t catch up to the manga kind of issue.

Thanks for the input!

Peace.

True. I had forgotten about the rain village.
Ok, so I?ll give in to the spider mechanical bot being totally "normal".
But what about the missiles?

I think that is the point in a way that they are bad and are rarely seen within naruto....thus showing naruto kick his butt without using weapons....this leaves the underlying message of not using weapons.....aka the bad guy always loses :D heh

Ok....but do you agree that the things in the images are missiles?
cause if you do, it brings back to my point...why would kishi specifically say that they wouldn?t be allowed?

Need to remember that this is a translation(maybe not translated as he wanted it to be) maybe by missile he means nuclear?....

First and most important: thanks for the pics.

Maybe Devlin is right, maybe Kishi meant nuclear explosions or something like that. Or maybe the only one aloud to use explosive things (not coming from chakra as Naruto's) is Pain to show he does not fight fairly in the ninja world. But you're right, he's using explosives.

We know there are not only refrigerators but also some industries in the fire country. Naruto always takes milk from tetra-brick packs and we have also seen him having instant pasta. In case you don't know, they are those cans Naruto sometimes has: they have dried pasta, all you need to do is add some boiling water into the can and it's ready.

Who knows, maybe some other industrialized weapons will appear.

I think he was either forced, influenced or led to it.
Either way, good to know I am not the only one to think they were missiles.
Since very few people actually had seen all of kishi?s interviews it would only be natural to assume missiles were normal.

I have noticed those instant food and tetra packs...hehe..kinda puts the Naruto verse more possible to have existed or to maybe exist in the future.
But if we keep seeing more weapons and such, it kinda brings Naruto down a little in my opinion.

Anyways thanks for the input.

Peace.

kishi said "The only exceptions are weapons and explosives, which I’ve decided to set in a much earlier era" so he made a compromise with the missiles, we saw explosives in Naruto, but we will definetly not see guns or tanks, that would ruin the manga
