~~~~~~~~~~~~AUTHOR NOTES~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey guys, just a head's up. I wrote this fanfic about three years ago so it's pretty outdated. I have about 20+ chapters already written up, but I decided that I'll only post the rest if this one gets decent responses. I'm not much of a fanfic writer, but I did my best when I wrote this.
Please keep in mind that the only knowledge I had when I wrote this was whatever happened in the anime at the time. I created an off-branch ANBU group before I learned what Root was all about. I also have characters that focus on certain arts that seem very similar to canon characters. (For example, one that focuses on explosions, one that refers to themselves as a God-like figure, and one that's a leader of a criminal organization.)
The purpose behind this fanfic was to show other stories that could happen aside from the main story of the Naruto world. The original plan was to have characters that have their own growth in parallel of the canon main characters.
Just a heads up, I plan to NOT have canon characters in this fanfic. There may be references to these characters, but aside from important figures (such as the Hokage), I'm going to try and not include canon characters. This'll prevent the situations in my fic conflicting with canon situations in the actual story. When I do have a canon character involved, I'll do my best to stay in-character as possible.
CHAPTER ONE: "Hajimete!"
CHAPTER ONE: "Hajimete!"
___The dense forests of the Land of Fire allowed little light to pass through from the canopy down to the forest floor, making it tough for most travelers to get through. One shaded figure could be seen, however, in the distance, jumping from branch to branch with relative ease. He was dresses in the common Konohagakure Jounin uniform with a dark blue long-sleeved shirt underneath a dark green flack jacket that contained various scroll pockets on the front. He wore dark blue pants that end at his ankles where dark blue boots cover his feet. At the man's waist was a belt that had two beige pouches, one on the left and one on the right. Strapped onto his right thigh was a shuriken holster that contained various common shuriken.
___He looked to be an average Jounin from Konoha. Silver hair was blown by the wind as he jumped from one branch to another, allowing the crest of the forehead protector to display his loyalty towards Konohagakure, the Hidden Village of the Leaves. As the man continued to leap from tree to tree, turquoise-colored eyes glance behind him for a brief second before he came to a sudden rest, allowing his hair to fall down to his upperback level.
___The moment he stopped, a dozen shuriken made contact with the tree beside him.
___"It seems like I didn't lose them after-all." The man spoke with a clear voice, forming a light smile on his lips as he closed his eyes and placed his hands together. "I guess they disagreed with my proposition."
___"Hana Shoushitsu!" The man proclaimed in thought and kneeled down to one knee. A large flower that looked similar to the Clematis Asao formed underneath his feet on the tree branch. The pedals with violet marks began to fold upward, engulfing the man. By the time a dozen more shuriken struck, the pedals had already shielded him. A couple of shinobi wearing generic black outfits that covered them from head to toe, save for the eyes, landed beside the flower. One of them reached out to grab the pedals and rip it away, noticing how easy it was to do so. Unfortunately, the one they had been chasing was nowhere to be seen.
___Confused, the two ninja continued to run in the direction of Konoha, leaping from tree branch to tree branch as they do. The one they were chasing, has turned out to be hiding amongst the canopy of the forest, watching the two ninja from the tree tops. With a slight chuckle, he let go of the branch he was holding onto and allowed himself to fall to the forest floor, kneeling to reduce impact as he hit the ground.
___"I'll let the ANBU deal with those two for now. I have a meeting with Sandaime-sama." He formed that smile again across his lips while dusting himself off. He soon began to casually walk in the direction he was heading before, positioning his hands into his pockets. "Take a bit of time to let them get ahead of me."
___Out of nowhere, though, a pair of kunai landed in front of his feet. The man instantly jumped back and removed his hands from his pockets. Those turquoise-colored hues shifted from the kunai to the direction they were thrown from. The two figures that seemed to have ran off were there, staring at him and preparing to throw more kunai.
___"Damn... they noticed the illusion!" The man thought to himself as he prepared for the worst. The two men threw four kunai each. The man was able to dodge the first four with a back-flip, letting them hit the ground in front of him. However, the second group of four kunai seem to have struck him as soon as he landed on his feet. The body fell back before a puff of smoke appeared, revealing a wooden log - specifically carved out to match a clematis asao - impaled by the four kunai.
___"Buudo Muchiutsu," the sudden voice from the man took the two ninja by surprise. When they turned around, they were suddenly wrapped up in thorned vines. The man's arms had turned into about a thousand vines, about five hundred on each side. After securely tying the two up, making sure to have covered their mouths and wrapped around their arms and legs, the man kneeled on the tree branch he was on. The vines slowly shifted from his limps to connecting with the tree branch. When the vines shifted, it revealed his arms to look about as normal as any, except now the sleeves were torn.
___He turned and began to leap from tree branch to tree branch, leaving the two ninja there to struggle and try to escape. The more they struggled though, the more the thorns would penetrate their bodies.
___Later, the Third Hokage, Sarutobi, had finished speaking with the various jounin in his office. He now sits in silence, smoking peacefully with his pipe. As the smoke rose to the ceiling, the old man tilted his head forward, bringing the Hokage-style hat down to cover his face in a partial manner.
___"Back already? Was there trouble?" The Third spoke in a raspy voice, noticing the torn sleeves on the man's uniform. Time had been kind to him, but his smoking habit had caused the fragile-looking old man to speak in a raspy voice, almost always sounding as though he had phlegm in his throat.
___"Hokage-sama," the clear voice from the man who had escaped the two ninja from earlier suddenly appeared in the office. He was kneeling on one knee with his head lowered as a sign of respect. "This is Hanadoru, Saiounji reporting for his fifty-third B-rank mission as Konoha's ambassador representative. The meeting with Getsugakure seems to have gone well. However, they have sent two shinobi to what I assume was to dispose of me. The ANBU should be encountering them by now."
___Saiounji stood upright, forming a light smile again before removing a scroll from one of the scroll pockets on the dark green flack jacket. He approached the Third's desk and placed the scroll on the top of it before stepping back.
___"I suppose the leaders of that village are set on staging war against Konoha. May I suggest forming a ten-man team to guard the Fire Land's border to the North?" Saiounji spoke with his clear voice, obviously not a smoker.
___The Third took the scroll and tore the small bit of tape that held the scroll in its rolled up fashion. He placed the scroll on the desk and unraveled it. A moment passed by since Saiounji's suggestion. The Third released a puff of smoke from the side of his mouth and Saiounji's lavender eyes watched it raise to the ceiling, quietly bringing a hand up to cover his nose.
___"That won't be necessary, Saiounji." The Third's voice broke the silence before rolling the scroll up and setting it to the side. "In order for an invasion, they must pass through the Land of Sound and they're currently not allowing anyone to pass by without full permission. This brief stall would grant us more than enough time to notice any sort of invasion planned."
___"Then at least place some sort of guard on the border in case they attempt to invade." Saiounji raised his brows, lifting his hands as he stepped up towards the Third. Immediately noticing his place, he stepped back and bowed his head. "I mean.. if that is the most sensible thing you think we should do."
___The Third nodded his head, though remained silent. The old man stood upright from his seat and clasped his hands behind his back before walking past the desk and towards a window to look outside. He watched as the various citizens lived through their usual daily lives.
___"Saiounji, I have a new assignment for you." The Third started to speak. Saiounji nodded his head and stood in attention, waiting for his orders. "The graduation of the academy students took place the other day."
___"So you want me to become a Jounin Instructor?" Saiounji raised a brow. Though the Third shook his head.
___"No. We've found enough Jounin to test these new students." The Third formed his own smile before turning towards Saiounji. He released his hands from behind his back and motion towards the desk. "You'll find their profile on the desk there. Please look over them before making your final decision."
___Saiounji nodded his head before walking towards the desk and opening two folders laying on top of it. He grabbed a handful of sheets of paper from each one and lifted them up to briefly scan over them. After the brief scan, his lavender eyes widen.
___"These are..." Saiounji's lavender eyes remained widen as he scanned through the pages of each person. They soon returned to normal before shifting his attention towards the Third.
___"The same as yourself, Saiounji." The Third laughed a little at Saiounji's reaction. The old man returned to watching the citizens outside from his window. "They've been watched over for years now and are at the age of the students that just graduated. They're not formal students and lack the benefit of any sort of clan. I am asking you to not only be their assigned Jounin Instructor, but also their officer."
___Saiounji was stunned for a moment before his attention was once again on the sheets of paper. "'Haibana, Kanako' and 'Nara, Shikari?' One of them's from the Nara Clan?"
___"I see..." Saiounji corrected himself as he continued to read through the rest of the profiles. In silence, he placed the sheets of papers back into their respective folders before turning and looking towards the Third. "So you're wanting me to--"
___"Correct." The Third answered. He turned and face Saiounji and waited for his answer.
___"Hai, Hokage-sama. I will accept this assignment and help guide these two to become spectacular ninja." Saiounji responded after a long pause of thought. He formed a light smile and kneeled down for a moment to show his respect to the Third.
___"So boring!" Groaned a girl, standing outside the Hokage building. She was about twelve-years-old and had a slender frame which wore a black shirt underneath gray jacket that had sleeves which were rolled up to her elbows. She wore black khaki pants that ended at her shins with gray sandals on her feet. Her black hair was short and ended at her neck. Her bangs were long enough to reach her eyes, but they were neatly brushed to the side. She stood at about 5'0."
___"Seriously, why do they always call me here only to have me stand outside for what seems like hours?" The girl muttered to herself before turning her attention to two ANBU members who stood in front of her as though they were guarding her.
___"Hey! Jay and Silent Bob, what's the deal? This is the fifth time! Does the old geezer wanna see me or not!" She called out with a clear voice typical of a twelve-year-old. The ANBU members never responded to her, so she just sighed and crossed her arms before she returned to leaning against the wall.
___Two more ANBU members appeared and stood in silence while another female showed up. She seemed to be about the same age as the other girl, but this one's appearance was pale, very pale. This girl wore a black dress that covered the majority of her body. The dress extended down to her ankles, though the sleeves ended at her forearms, showing off the very pale skin. Her black hair ended at her shoulders with a few bangs coming down in front of her golden-yellow eyes. She stood at only 4'10" and seemed to be even smaller in stature than the other girl. This girl was placed on the side of the building.
___The two glanced to each other for a brief moment before the door opened.
