How come the jutsu is short range sempai even though in the anime Yamato made it big and long?

*I first start concentrating and focus a lot of doton chakra. I then run up the cliff. While running up the cliff, I start spreading the amount of doton chakra I have to the cliff. I keep adding until I reach the middle of the cliff and until it reaches the top of the cliff. I then do the handseals (I don't know what are the hand seals) which dislodges the stone and rock above me and rains down past me and hit the ground below*

I then perform the Tiger handseal to transform the ground into a river of mud that knocks 4 of your clones off balance. I then add more chakra to the river for a few minutes so that the dragon head will be more powerful and bigger than before. Finally, I then perform the handseals Ram → Horse → Dragon to create a really big dragon like head that shoots a powerful and big concentrated mud at your clones that are now off balanced.*
