Prologue
It was the year 2640, roughly 500 years ago mankind fled the earth in search of a new home. It wasn’t that global warming had gotten worse, nor that the sun was about to consume the earth, nor had there been some sort of ragnarok or apocalypse. Well, I guess you could say there was, but more specifically the earth was aging too quickly.
550 years ago, America and Russia had attempted to harness the power of certain crystals, it was a race between the countries, similar to the race to the moon and the nuclear arms race that had transpired centuries before, a race for both political, and military power. Whoever succeeded first would become the undisputed superpower for years to come. It was said that the crystal were capable of releasing a intense output of energy that would equate to the energy gained if the moon were to be covered with nuclear power plants for the next millenium, it was undoubtedly enough energy to fuel the earth for thousands of years to come. It seemed that both countries succeeded at the same time, however, in reality they both doomed the world. The experiment went wrong on both sides, the crystals released a large blast of energy that began to create distortions and fluctuations in space and time, creating a field with a 5000 km diameter in which time was accelerated. Things aged quicker, and thus any beings within were affected by it’s radiation and evolved quicker. They breeded, became smarter, stronger, and faster, yet few could escape the field, as the moment a living being entered into, or out of the field, their body would experience an immense shock that in most cases resulted in instant death. Only few could survive the sudden transition between time. The fields slowly began to expand, growing wider and wider with each day, enveloping more and more land and natural resources, which led to several more experiments, such as inducing movement within the tectonic plants so as to transport the land further away from the time field, which in result would buy more time. The experiment had succeeded, resulting in the majority of land on earth being clustered into a strip that ran along the prime meridian.
The scientist had then banded together, in an attempt to make a weapon powerful enough to destroy the two immensely large towers in which the crystals were safe housed in, however the beings or perhaps demons within the field prevented most weapons from hitting their mark at any cost. They’re growth in smartness allowed them to realise the stark reality, that if the towers and crystals were destroyed, they’d be wiped out instantly. Furthermore the towers themselves were built to be able to withstand several nuclear blasts, creating an impenetrable fortress, the only way to shut down the crystals was to send an elite team to do it manually. Something which had failed time and time again. Not even the Syndicate, humanitys outcasts; individuals who possessed supernatural, or inhumane powers due to the time field altering their genetics, were capable of breaking through. Thus, the earth was abandoned, the ARK was made, a large spaceship which contained the remaining population of earth. Humanity left in search of finding a new home, however after 500 years we’re still drifting through space, the amount of cryo stasis pods were limited, and were mainly reserved for royalty, and diplomats. The rest of the humans simply existed on the ship, living, knowing that they’d die within it’s confines and be chucked out into the vacuum called space. However, there was still one last hope. Every 50 years the ARK circled back around to the earth, launching an elite team comprised mostly of Syndicates, so far it had been futile, however each half decade the chances of success rose, new information was gathered, new technology produced, and most importantly unlike most genetic mutations, the later generation Syndicates possessed more acute power than the previous generation. As time went on the Syndicate gene increased in potency, the 10th generation team would be the strongest yet. Not only that, but we now had a secret weapon, a small crystal with limited power which had the opposite effect as the Alpha and Omega crystals, they were implanted into each participant's chest. They would be capable of keeping the human in question from aging for a short period of time, once they arrived on earth, they’d have a time limit of 2.5 years before the crystals died out, at which point they’d begin to rapidly age and soon die. In the inner field that had a 5000 km diameter span, the life preserve crystals would last a few months, or possibly only weeks due to the time fluctuations being much stronger.
Once we arrived on earth, the race for survival would begin, a countdown to either death or success.
