Chapter 2 - The Bounty Hunter Gets Put to Sleep

As the doors to the colliseum's inner corridors began to close once again, Mewtwo and Pikachu's Trainer returned from the outside arena after a brief but heated battle, the latter holding Pikachu in his arms. Waiting for them inside the chambers of the stadium was Samus, having apparently rid herself of her power suit until her own match began. Also waiting for them was the Trainer's second Pokemon Jigglypuff. As Samus congratulated Mewtwo on his victory, the Trainer walked over to Jigglypuff in question.

"What're you doing here? Didn't wanna wait for us at the room, I suppose?"

Samus, who overheard this, gave him a simple enough answer.

"I found her in the halls. She must've gotten lost in search of the doors."

She then proceeded to change the subject upon seeing Pikachu.

"I hope the loss doesn't weigh too heavily on him."

His Trainer smirked at this.

"Well, he and I both know that someone must be the first to lose. It's just a shame that it had to be him."

He looked down at Pikachu, who had started to regain consciousness, and began forming a smile.

"I guess we should both prepare for our next battle. Pikachu's not the only one I have to look out for."

He looked down at Jigglypuff, who seemed to be staring into space. Confused, he and Samus then realized that the announcements for the next match were already being made. It was Zelda's voice who gave them the news.

"Whose ready for the second match of the day?"

The crowd cheered in delight in response to her question.

"Good answer! Well then, the next match-up of the day is..."

The following announcement even managed to make Mewtwo, who was nearly out of Samus and the Trainer's sight, stop dead in his tracks.

"...Samus Aran and Jigglypuff!"

Back in the corridors, the two mentioned brawlers looked at each other in silence for what seemed like days, both shocked and mesmerized by the utter coincidence of it all. The Trainer finally broke the silence when he spoke out to Mewtwo.

"Hey, Mewtwo. Would you mind hanging around with Pikachu until this is over?"

The Pokemon formed a small smile.

"I can do that for you."

"Thank you."

He placed Pikachu on the ground and looked at him to speak.

"You doing okay now, buddy?"

The Pokemon answered in the only way he knew how.

"Pikachu!"

"Good. It looks like I have to go back out there much sooner than I thought. We'll be back soon. Take care."

He stood back up to look at Samus, but she had already sprinted down the corridors towards her room in order to retrieve her power suit. He then looked to Jigglypuff, who was already at his side, waiting for the doors to open again.

"Let's go."

"Jigglypuff."

Once again, the sunlight outside poured into the corridors as the two waited anxiously for the match that was to come. As they had done no more than twenty minutes ago, they stepped through the doors and across the bridgeway to the center arena. The crowd seemed to recognize that the Trainer whom they were watching no more than five minutes ago was appearing once again with his second Pokemon, as some got to their feet as they cheered. Whether it was for Pikachu or him, it managed to build more confidence in the Trainer's mind. After waiting about four minutes, Samus appeared through the doors, now fully clad in her well-known armor, and entered the arena. The Trainer spoke out to her.

"It's a shame that we have to fight so soon after what seemed like a friendly conversation."

The female bounty hunter smiled underneath her helmet.

"It was. And, hopefully for you and her, this match won't be any less friendly."

Silence fell across the colliseum once more as the referee hovered closer to the arena to begin the countdown. Jigglypuff made her way onto the field, now prepping for the brutality that would take place in the next three seconds. Both brawlers held a preparative stance as the referee began.

"3, 2, 1, GO!"

Samus was the first to make a move, using the cannon on her right arm to send a small missile after Jigglypuff. The Pokemon's spherical shape made it all the more easier to roll away from the attack, but her sluggish movements also made it easier for Samus to quickly approach her and knock near the edge of the arena. Quickly picking herself back up, Jigglypuff attempted to jump over Samus's head, but took a bit of damage from the flamethrower that Samus's arm was also equipped with. Falling in front of Samus once more, nothing stopped Jigglypuff from being knocked over the arena's edge this time, causing her Trainer to call out in worry.

"Jigglypuff! Hold on!"

All the while, Peach was speaking with Zelda in their balcony seats about this seemingly uneven match-up.

"It's almost too one-sided. Samus had the upper hand from the start and now-"

Zelda, who was more assured of Jigglypuff's skills, interrupted her.

"Calm yourself, Peach. You seem to forget why Jigglypuff was a contestant in the Smash longer than the two of us."

As this was said, Jigglypuff was using her Inhaling ability to float back above the stage and over Samus's head, landing behind her and inciting cheers from the crowd, a sigh from her Trainer, and a smile from Zelda. Peach seemed rather impressed.

"Well, I suppose I see why now. She's a survivor. But what of her offensive abilities?"

"My friend, Jigglypuff has many skills that you have apparently forgotten all about, one of which helped achieve her a spot in the semi-finals in one tournament."

Intrigued, Peach decided to momentarily stop their conversation and continue watching the match, hoping to catch a glimpse of this ability. Luckily for her, though unfortunately for Samus, it would not take long. As Jigglypuff caught her footing after nearly falling off the arena, she used one of her most well-known tactics to stop Samus dead in her tracks: her ability to sing. The lullaby was successful, sending Samus crashing to the floor, now in a deep slumber. What she did next was so unorthodox, it could hardly be described through words. The entire stadium watched in confusion as Jigglypuff walked over to Samus, lied down right beside her, and simply fell asleep. Peach slowly looked over to Zelda in question.

"Rest? That's her great ability? What-"

She was stopped short by a loud, sharp noise, which was shortly followed by a loud 'whoa' from the crowd, followed again by cheering. When she looked back, Jigglypuff was getting up off the ground, and Samus was twenty feet in the air. The Pokemon's Trainer was estatic.

"Yeah! Way to go, Jigglypuff!"

Peach eyes widened.

"What was that!?"

Zelda looked at her with a smile.

"Jigglypuff's Resting ability is unique compared to other Pokemon who bear the ability. When she falls asleep, so much energy builds up in her body that anybody as close to her as Samus was will end up following her example. Bowser is undoubtably the largest of all us brawlers, and this attack sent him soaring into the air in a previous tournament."

Peach listened in awe at this as she resumed her onlook of the match, all her previous doubts about Jigglypuff's chances now having shifted to Samus. Samus herself had now landed upon the arena once again, now in the position that she had placed Jigglypuff in no more than eight minutes ago. Slowly, she got on all fours, but the moment she began standing on her feet once again, she felt a sharp pain in her back and was forced over the edge by Jigglypuff. Finding the match to be over, the referee came downward to confirm it, but as he began to raise his hand, a small blue object was seen digging into the edge of the arena. Samus had saved herself through use of her plasma chain, inciting the same cheers from the crowd that Jigglypuff had received. The Pokemon moved to dislodge the hook of the chain, but Samus had used nearly all the strength she had to yank on it and hoist herself back onto the stage. Looking to knock her back over the edge, Jigglypuff moved forward to Body Slam her opponent, but the bounty hunter rolled out of her way just in time. Hoping for Samus to make the next move, Jigglypuff silently waited for her to either move forward or begin charging her plasma cannon, though neither came to be. Confused, Jigglypuff looked to her Trainer, who was just as puzzled. Suddenly, the young boy looked at his Pokemon's feet and saw a small flashing object, causing his eyes to widen in shock.

"Jigglypuff!! Look out! It's a bo-"

Before the word left his mouth, the small object exploded under her feet, sending her a short distance into the air. The damage it did to Jigglypuff was not much, but the distraction it made gave Samus more than enough time to charge a large plasma ball with her cannon and send it flying directly into the Pokemon. A loud cheer from the crowd was heard as Jigglypuff was sent thirty feet off the side of the arena, causing her Trainer to panic.

"Jigglypuff!!! Hurry up, float! Quick!"

Hearing his words, the Pokemon quickly did as she was told, attempting to savor each inhalation, as she knew that she could only take in so much air before she began to plummet once again. Timing each breath just right, she was nearly back onto the arena when she was hit by another one of Samus's missiles. Being unable to take in any more air, she fell into the dark abyss below the stadium, inciting cheers from the crowd, as they now knew that Samus had undoubtably won. The referee moved back down towards the arena and made it official.

"Game! The winner is...Samus!"

Moments later, Jigglypuff appeared again from the abyss, now lying unconscious on a rescue hoverboard. It carried her in front of her Trainer before vanishing, allowing the boy to approach his Pokemon and carry her in his arms to the bridgeway into the corridors, followed closely by Samus.

"She fought incredibly well."

The Trainer could only nod in agreement. Samus understood his disappointment.

"I apologize."

The boy looked over to her.

"...For what?"

"Well..., both of your Pokemon were defeated in the first round..., and back to back..., and in the first two ma-"

"Samus."

The bounty hunter looked at the boy in curiosity.

"It's fine. There are plenty of tournaments to come. It's only an unfortunate turn of events...it'll pass for me..."

He looked towards the corridor doors, thinking of Pikachu, before looking down at Jigglypuff.

"...and them."

Samus smiled beneath her mask.

"I suppose the least I can do is tell you that she's not the only Pokemon I'll defeat."

The boy looked up to her with an indifferent look on his face. Worried she may have upset him, she waited silently for a face.

"The LEAST you can do is insure that you and Mewtwo tie tommorrow."

A chuckle left Samus from behind her mask.

"I suppose."

The two walked through the open doorway, now proceeding to wait for the results of the rest of the day's matches.

its different from the norm its unfortunate that Ash lost the first two rounds but i will give you rep because its interesting and its not a bad story
Well, it's not exactly Ash, more just a regular trainer like in the third game, but I appreciate the nice review:) I'm actually surprised that there are as many people familiar with the game as there are, but I'll take what I can:D
