Chiyo and Sakura were the best available combo against him. Put Kakashi on their place, and Sasori would destroy. As for the thread, he would be able to defeat guys like Deidara, Kakuzu or Kisame - each one of them is kage level shinobi.

Sasori can beat Pain by yanking the antennaes out of the bodies.

The Third's Iron Sand can get into the joints of puppets and stop them from completely moving... >_> how does a puppeteer that uses a puppet as a body, beat that?
