Nope it's Hashirama's "Leaf of the future" genjutsu
Here we see Hashirama put Madara under a genjutsu using his mokuton leaf, why else did it just happen to fall right into Madara's path right. It was here when Madara looks through the leaf that he becomes trapped in the greatest Genjutsu in NV and everything that happens is just Madara's future he wants.
20 fodder ninja didn't kill Tobirama, creator of some of the best jutsu in the series, that was Madara's idea of the most embarassing death for the man who killed his brother. He saw his clan surrender before going into the genjutsu so in the genjutsu world he imagined his traitorous clan being wiped out and started anew by someone seeking revenge. Becoming Juubi Jin and a near God was all just his deepest desire since he was a child when he found someone was stronger than him.
The whole manga was one big genjutsu, Madara never almost took over the world, he's been sitting on a mountain staring through a leaf for years now. Part 3 is only happening now because Hashi still has Madara sitting on that mountain stuck in a genjutsu.
