The Beginning

It's been twenty years since the village system fell apart, it was bound to happen some time. After the 4th great shinobi war, the villages remained in peace, co-operating, but how long could that really last? It was evident by the fact that Kumogakure had cannons built for war with other villages. New kage's had been sworn in and slowly the bonds of piece began to break. Wars broke out and all ties were lost, it was a race to destroy what was left of the opposing sides. Bit by bit the world came crumbling down, villages destroyed, nations broken down into warring states, the world was back to how it once was in the time of the Uchiha/Senju war.

But there were some, that even in these dark times, bound together to form a light in the darkness. In the land of tea, a small group developed in secret a new form of technique, a defensive one, based on the great Rashonmon Gates, combining this with sealing and barrier arts to create the ultimate defense. Two men led a large group, all of which were ready to do what needed to be done. Finally when preparations were done, all 17 of them gathered, 15 to perform the technique, and the two men coordinating the plan. Initiating the ritual, in sync, the 15 shinobi performed a series of 184 handseals finishing with slamming their hands on the ground. As they did so the ground lit up with a 50m wide sealing formula that resembled a pentagram, glowing bright purple, lighting up the dark night, glowing brighter and brighter, when it suddenly it errupted outwards from the center where the two men were blasting outwards. As it hit the other 15, it drained their very life force in a mere moment, leaving nothing but dust where they stood, spreading outwards all around them through the dark night, lightning up the horizon.

The light stopped on the borders of the land of Tea, and from the ground, in the light a walls began to rise, 30m thick, and 4 times higher than the largest summon seen in the world, making even Hashirama's ultimate technique seem small. All across these giant walls were carvings, markings, countless kanji, this was the ultimate defense. One that would keep any threat out. The two men that stood in the middle lay unconscious, but still alive, upon their heads was a seal, one that faded into their heads. Later they would come to realize this was the key to opening the barrier wall they had just created, and within, a new nation would form. And so the tides changed, the Land of Tea became a safe haven for those looking to avoid the destruction and death that came with the clashing clans, the people came to know it as Trost, with the two men with the seals leading the nation. One of these men was Natsu Uchiha, the other, no one knew. He lived in the shadows, watching, waiting. There was no fighting within these walls as all who entered were tested and trialed but there were still things that bugged the other man. He noticed man's selfishness even within the walls, those who were greedy taking more than their fair share, those that were lazy, not pulling their weight, it was the same as everywhere, and he became sick of it...

And one day he was gone from Trost....

Chapter I : Winds of Change

With the wall erected a new era began. The wall to many symbolized hope, yet to others, it was an obstical to overcome. Within the wall itself a new community had began to form, factions rose up and a heirarchy set in place as with all settlements. Natsu as the sole key to the wall let the military police within the walls. Those there to keep peace and order. He often wonder how those within the walls felt about him being able to break the seal at any point, but he knew they feared him and would not harm him in case doing so broke the seal. He often wondered where his former ally was now, the man who held the other half of the seal. He'd insisted on a force within the walls to keep order, it was the only way to keep the stability of peace. Without it, what did people have to fear if they didn't follow the laws? Within the military, there were a few that had quickly risen through the ranks to make a name for themselves. was one of these shinobi. Also known as the human tank for his tough body, and well know for his prowess in lightning and his speed. He stood as one of the officers of the military corps within the walls. Natsu knew of him, but didn't know him directly. He liked to keep tabs on those around him though. Along with Hakai, another that stood out within the military corps was , she's a unique individual, leading those of the Ganmi clan within the walls, well know for being one to seek peace. Natsu assumed this was her reason for leading her clan behind the wall. She was admired for her leadership skills within the clan and the determination she had for striving for peace.

Within the walls, there were those who sought to venture out beyond the wall, as an offensive unique against the terrors that lay beyond the wall, these were known as the Survey Corps. These dedicated few saw themselves as the hope for humanity, believing that by retaking land outside of the wall, one day, they would be freed from the bounds of the wall, and still retain the peace they desire. Within the survey corps, the Medical branch aided them , healing those in the field that were injured, much like the old ninja system. One in particular was , he loved traveling beyond the wall, it was like a claustrophobia had been lifted from him, breathing in fresh air for the first time. It was a freedom he loved even if short lived and extremely dangerous. Then there were those that had lived a peaceful life over the years, but that just wasn't enough being one of these. He signed up for the survey corps as he believed life to be too short, it was time for one last adventure in these dark times.

There are always two sides to every story along with their being two sides to the great wall. There were those that wandered around on the outside of the wall such as , always wandering, never stopping. Another being , one who had known a world of war once before, back when he was still a child, growing up in the clan wars. He liked the idea of freedom, not another method of binding people under one banner, no, he would only cross that wall as a foe when the time came. For now, he would do what he wished, when he wished. Though not all wanted this life, it was just the life they knew, like . He'd grown up outside the wall, only knowing to fight for survival, no friends, just him and his will to keep going on. He knew that one day, he'd bring that wall down.

Overall, tensions had risen within the wall and outside it. Those within the walls prepared, in case one day the wall did fall. But at the same time, enjoyed the peace that it did offer. Natsu ensured their were patrols around the wall at regular intervals, eyes on the outside at all times in case of an attack. Though on the outside, people began to despise the wall, seeing it as a wrong, it needed to come down to make all equal. This is the tale of how the world changed....

Chapter 2 : A New Day.

Part I

Asleep among the midst of the new dawn, Alice tossed and turned within her bedroom. The nightmare of losing her family sometimes plagued her dreams, the thought of seeing all of die at the hands of monsters...she woke in a cold sweat, her iris shrunken down as her red eyes scanned the lustrous bed room. Her heavy , panting breathing began to calm down she began to sense the chakra of many of the household members registered in. Mother...Father..Grandfather even Erina chan’...they were all ok. Considering things were starting to pick up, she heard a knocking on the door. Alice startled a little bit but noticed it was her assistant, Ryou Kurokiba standing on the outsides of the doorway.

"Come in, Ryou-kun!" she said with a peppy reply, it’s obvious she wanted to rest off the fatigue right away. The black haired Inuzuka came into the room, scanning the area for any potential foreign scents but nothing seems out of place. He walked near the nightstand, placing a cup of water onto it for the young lady, then taking a sit across from the bed. Alice took the cup of water, trying to avoid any kind of eye contact with Ryou but he broke the awkward tension in the air.

"Ojo-sama. Erina told me already, you had another nightmare again didn’t you."
"That’s not your concern, Ryou-kun. I’m perfectly fine the way things are…"

Alice retorted, her hands shaking slightly. Ryou has been with Alice almost his entire life and can tell when she is lying. The man sighed and simply removed a paper from his ninja pouch. It had information on it that was encrypted within a language that only military corps members can decipher. Alice would take the paper and begin to read it.

"Damn it...they want me for street patrol today...RYOU-KUN! You take my place instead, that’s an order!"
"No."
"But I…!"
"You signed up for the military faction, Ojo-sama, It’s your duty as the Candy Maker to ensure the safety of the clan. Erina-sama has already become the leader of the Nakiri Clan, the sister clan of the Ganmi but you are the retainer of this house. Don’t disappoint us...or you know...do whatever you want, I don’t really care but I’ll follow you no matter what."

Ryou said towards Alice, she pouted her cheeks in frustration but he was right. She had no choice, Alice would dismiss the male out of her room as she prepared for a day out in town. Once she was set, all her tools set within her ninja pouch including the Barnacles attached to her ninja pouch in the forms of Elma and Lyn the two Kozui greeted their master with pleasant good mornings. Ready to set out, Alice along with Ryou head towards the militant factions headquarters.

As the sun rose, the streets began to wake, even the military corps began to move, starting their usual patrol, inspecting the wall, generally making sure Troste was safe and secure. At the forefront of the patrol Natsu saw a face he recognized from the data books but not one he'd personally spoken to. Alice of the Ganmi clan, one that held hope for peace no matter what, but why? Natsu decided it was time he introduced himself. He sat up and jumped from his roof to another then flipped off landing 5m in front of Alice, his hands in his pockets as he turned to face her and her squad. If he was naive, he would believe she didn't look like much, but that is what would get you killed. He looked over them all then back to Nakiri?

Hey, Alice right? Got a few minutes?

Upon walking towards the corps, Alice and co was minding their own business when Ryou suddenly gets all uppity for a quick moment. He pushed Alice back slightly as he placed his arm in front of her. His distant cold eyes whispered towards the man whom had just landed in front of them. The man called out to Alice, only for her to realize it was the Captain! Alice placed Ryou’s shoulder down as a sign to calm down, she then turns to the cherry blossom haired fellow.

Ohhhh Uchiha Natsu-kun….ettooo I mean taichou? Pfft doesn’t matter! How can I help you?

She said awaiting his reply. Natsu noticed the actions of the one at Alice's side, a loyal follower it seemed, one that would put their life before Alice without a second thought. It was hard to gain that kind of loyalty. But even while thinking this, Natsu didn't react, he just kept looking at Alice as she gestured for her ally to stand down.

"There are a few things i wanna ask you, if you've got time... you can be excused from your patrol, the rest can go on. Though, i'm sure there are some who would insist on staying, how about breakfast?"

As he spoke he gestured to the one who had tried to protect Alice. Though he intended to speak to Alice directly, it would be interesting to see how they reacted as a pair. Hakai had been following the Uchiha closely keeping tabs on him from behind. The uchiha said his greetings and repeats her name, that's where Hakai would join in.
"Soldier! You have not time to be engaging in idle talks, you're late for my briefing and I fail to see any tangible reason as to that!"
Hakai completely ignores Natsu with his attention and focus all on the female soldier, Alice awaiting a reply before giving her his regular bashing and critic. Natsu heard the voice behind him as he spoke, he looked over his shoulder to see the new recruit, Hakai, one that was quite in your face about things.

"Your briefing can wait. I have my reasons and my reasons are my own, so either shut up and go back to playing soldier or stick around and wait and see what my reasons are"

He turned back to Alice now.

"Sorry, new recruits, they think i give a damn about their duties."

This didn't go down well. Hakai's aggressive behavior crossed with Alice's wind up personality seemed to cause alot of tention within such a short space of time. So all's Natsu could do was put and end to it and push on with his intents. He said what he needed to to silence Hakai about picking on a little girl while walking on with Alice to discuss what he intended.

Part II

Meanwhile else where in the wall, others began to stir, though not with the same tensity as those around Natsu. In a more peaceful area, there was Buu. Buu peered up with a hand shielding his eyes at the monstrosity standing before him. The walls seemed to reach the sky and stretch from horizon to horizon. But he wasn't there for the wall, instead he was looking for something much more mundane. He turned and bound into the forest humming an innocent tune as he went. He stopped and sniffed the air, searching for a scent. Like a radar his head turned until it pulled a hit. In a flash he was on the move again, coming to a dead tree laying across the forest floor. Hidden in its shadows was a row of deep purple mushrooms, Buu's eyes lit up and he smiled ear to ear. He took the swung around his backpack and reached in, pulling out a smaller burlap sack. One by one he carefully picked the mushrooms and tucked them away.

Mmmmm, Buu is going to eat good tonight!

After clearing the row of mushrooms he stood and again tried to find a scent. It wasn't long before he was on the trail of more tasty delights. It was only a few bounds before something interrupted his hunt. His foot caught itself on some thin metal causing his body to fall forward and crash to the ground. He could hear metal jingle in the air around him. The hunt had left his mind as quickly as it had entered. He turned and sat on the ground inspecting the metal wire. Buu strummed the wire and listened to the jingling around him, it brought a simple smile to his face. Buu followed the wire with his eyes and saw it lead off in different directions. He got to his feet and began hopping from wire to wire, each one producing a slightly different tune in the jingling metal. Buu gleefully laughed as he produced a song of jingles, lost in the fun.

Nearby was Taek and the first thing Taek saw that morning was Chester (Taek's Dog) taking a dump on his bedroom floor. Taek sighed, and got up from bed, after all these years it had seemed he had grown acclimated to the day to day dealings as a merchant. Your dog takes a shit, you clean it, your boss gives you shit, you take it. It was still hard to believe that after all this time, Taek might be able to experience some action. Taek rubbed his eyes, cleaning off the crust as he walked towards his dresser. He had slept shirtless last night, and while he looked at the mirror in front of him he traced the scars on his body with his hands, they still hurt some twenty years later. Taek had gotten a lot beefier than when he was in his late teens, his shoulders had broadened during the war, and he maintained them to this day. He had a beard, with a few grey strands and his pony tail had been cut short, to the spiky shaggy thing he called hair on his head. Taek put on a muscle shirt, laced himself up in boots and walked out the door.

It had been a week now since Taek had enlisted in the Survey Corps, many of their recruits were much younger than Taek but the aquamarine-haired man took that as a challenge. He ran twice as many laps, in half the time they could run one. He lifted twice as many weights, and did absolutely everything he could to prove himself as not only a capable recruit, but the best. His efforts were not ignored, and soon Taek was promoted to the rank of Survey Corps Lieutenant. The higher your rank, the more opportunities you had to go beyond the walls, and that was Taek's goal. It had been a week now, no... It had been twenty long years and finally, Taek would have that opportunity presented to him. Other shinobi within the village questioned Natsu and what his actual goal was, and if he was truly their to help, one of these was Hisoka.

Part III

Things seemed to be peaceful on the outside of the wall, or so it would seem. It was quiet but their was always plotting, planning, you never knew what was going to happen next. For some, they were just out there, wandering the lands, seeking something yet never knowing what. Their intents were their own as they shared with none. Two that came to mind were Hiei and Saito. Else where there were others such as GuiMei, those who claimed their lands and made sure everyone knew it. He was the Alpha, the ultimate hunter in his parts, and when he wasn't hunting he would reside in his cave which remained hidden in the mountain wall. Others such as Keji didn't need to be the ultimate hunter, they just lived beyond the wall by their own means, living each day as it was their last. And then there was Toneri, not understanding the need for the wall, just aiming to take it down by himself.

Panthalassa opened his eyes in a clear and bright forest floor, near a riverbank. For a few moments, his eyes couldn't really focus on anything, starting by some blotched up colour and spreading outwards. So did the sounds develop, at first a murmur, and then, slowly some close by sounds, the river, the rustling leaves, and the murmur, louder and louder. As his vision of the world increased, so did it darken, for the murmur started to turn into horrible screams of pain and weapons. The world was like that now, wherever you went, there was someone dying close by, and sounds of constant war. But Panthalassa had few recollections of why, in fact, he had very few memories at all. Somehow, waking up, the sound made sense, he was aware of the constant war, and aware of the state of the world, but not his role in it, nor his life. Nor why he was covered in blood, or why his head hurt.

Panthalassa was waking up in a riverback, near the walls of Trost, with no idea he was tortured and brainwashed and how he barely escaped. Light headed, and hurting, he didn't even know his personality. And that made him angry, and shortfused. With his scythe in hand, he fashioned himself the only story that could link the blurry pieces. He was the Reaper, and he was here to kill. Chakra throbbed all over him, and the flies woke with him, the flies of the devil, it was only fitting. Panthalassa had happened to him. But for now, he would Collect. And so he raised his eyes, to the massive Wall.

Part IV - The Chaos on the Outside

Warning to all shinobi outside of the walls, near the north side to the wall and top of the land of tea, a giant appeared, or, a Titan. Giant, muscular, standing at the same height as a complete Susanoo. It appeared in a large blast of smoke with a roar that echoes all around like a screech, letting all know that it's their. Who ever it sees, it will attack. A new threat has appeared on the outside of the wall. Why had the people chosen to remain there... what could this titan do? And where did it come from?
