So isn't a good idea to be a loving person and believe in redemption and salvation?
Believing is quite a ways away from "happening". Remember that the psyche of the human mind is operated by the brain, which receives stimulation from the human body while it's alive. Once the human body is dead, the brain ceases to function, thus the mind withers away. Once this happens, there will be no sensing whatsoever. Everything you believe in will be for naught, because you have no mind to sense it! You can thank Mother Nature and the wonderful process of carbonic decay for this
Because in a couple of billion years the universe will eventually collapse upon itself
Much longer than this. A couple billion years will be the lifetime of Sol, our sun. But by that time, we will have advanced enough technology to escape the effects and thrive upon another solar system.
The idea going around is that the universe will expand so far that it will break apart from gravity itself. But lets remember--technology. In the time that it takes Sol to cease to be a functioning star, we will have advanced enough technology to call ourselves a "Type-Three" civilization. We are currently at a Type-Zero civilization--we get our energy from plants and dead animals. Type-One is Global, where we will have harnessed the power of the Earth itself and have self-sustaining energy. Type-Two is Solar, where we will use the sun itself as power, as well as the other planets and other celestial bodies around us. Type-Three is Galactic.
By the time we reach Type-Three Civilization status, nothing known to Science can destroy us--supernovas, black holes, rips in dimensions, or even the Universe itself collapsing.
