How is it that sting and rogue consume their respective elements?

I'm honestly baffled just thinking about it. well rogue i can see somehow just sucking up shadows or something, but sting's is the truly tricky one, any ideas?

Eats light bulb.
Eats anything used as enclosure. Box or wrapper.
yea, I thought of the light bulb too, figured that'd be more of laxus' schtick though.

as for the box or wrapper, once he opens it to eat it, its not dark anymore, and eating whatever material the box is made of isn't really consuming the element. i'll stick with rogue sucking up shadows or something until i get a better explanation.

Bathes in the sunlight.
so he eats sun rays, theres a thought. my head hurts. that damn hiro.

this is what i got from wiki
>>>>>While Dragon Slayers have the ability to consume their Magic's element to replenish their strength; for unknown reasons, Sting was able to eat a metal arrow, despite his Magic's element being light<<<<<<

Maybe 2nd and 3rd gen can eat other elements, like we never saw Laxus eating energy

I always reckoned Sting would be doing something along the lines of photosynthesis.
This makes sense. don't know why i didn't think of it.

i doubt they can eat other elements, but they may not have to eat, because as you stated we never seen laxus eat. (the idea is that the dragon lacrima allows for self sustenance and just replenishes over time.)

sting and rogue may not have to either since they have dragon lacrima implanted,
but i think they can eat their element since they have dragon lacrima implanted and are true dragon slayers as well, in the sense that a dragon taught them, not that they killed one.

I saw the photosynthesis comment and laughed, mostly because that would mean that his cellular structure would have been altered to include chloroplasts, but hey, whatever works. I did hear a joke about eating light with a spoon, but I don't quite understand how that would work. Sunbathing is the most logical explanation I can think of, but then when has Fairy Tail ever been logical. Going along with the Fairy Tail spirit, I would guess that if Sting were to suck up light, he would probably go out on a sunny day and chow down at high noon. Or maybe he sucks it up like a Bulbasaur charging a Solarbeam. As for the arrow Sting ate, you got me there, he has an even weirder diet than Natsu if he is going around eating those.

Rogue, that's easy, find a shadow and suck it up. Even though there is no way to actually pull that off, its Fairy Tail so I'll let it go.

yea, i said the rogue things already, however i said the photosynthesis makes sense in the sense where he absorbs and converts the suns energy into his own, not the exact mechanics that a plant would use of course. and its hard to say how sting would just suck up "light" because it'd look just like he was sucking up the air like wendy.

If anything I would expect that the lacrima within there body is fueling there powers, it can be taking fuel from the sun "For Sting" and Lunar Light/Shadow For Rouge". That also means it can have a cap on how much power it can give out safely before it causes harm. In a way you could say that the lacrima could be considered a fuel source or a filter for them
