Old Kai said Potara Fusion is a better method of fusion, and this is because it has no time limit, is done faster and can't be f*cked up like the Fusion Dance can be because of improper execution. He never said it was stronger.

Honestly I'm not sure myself. But I do believe he said ti was stronger- and even if he didn't he did say that (if I remember right) Potara is strengthened by rivals- something Dance is not. And since Goku and Vegeta are rivals, that's extra power.
However, I'm about to go sleep, don't feel like checking all the scans themselves hehe xD But even if they are equal power, which I don't believe, the favorable utilities granted from Potara makes it greater than, as you stated yourself.

Gogeta isn't a cannon fuse. He only appears in GT and in movies which aren't created by Toriyama.

But... if we go by logic, Gogeta is stronger. Old Kai says that Potara earrings are a better fusion, but this could mean a number a of things that are stated by Joker above me.

1. No time limit. Vegito would have been given ample time to defeat Majin Buu.

2. Can't really mess up Potara fusion. The fusion dance can be messed up and create Veku who had Raditz's power level...

Going by the fact that Goku was fighting Majin Buu level opponents JUST using Super Saiyan in GT and still not using his full potential, we could argue the fact that Gogeta being NECESSARY to defeat Omega Shenron would mean that Gogeta is stronger, if that makes sense.

Old Kai also said that Goku and Vegeta fusing was stronger partly because they were rivals, and "two of the strongest beings in the universe".

Ummm... they didn't have earring to work with vs Gogeta lol. Anyhow, in a "Real" fiction universe, you have to consider the fact that Goku and Vegeta have no desire to be melded together forever if there are other options, such as the Dance.

Not really. Fusion Reborn happens during the Buu Saga, and aside from Majin Vegeta, neither Goku or Vegeta gained power boosts at any time in the Buu Saga. They are the same.

Fusion doesn't work in 1 + 1 = 2 terms. it would be 1 + 1 = 4 because of added power of fusion techniques. And I believe that Potara adds more than Dance, because if my memory serves me right that's what Kai said.
