Nevertheless, Gai is still in terrible conditions. I suspect Kishi will give Gai a chance to say one final farewell before he dies. It is very unlikely that he will survive from all of this. Even if he does (which I'm 90% certain that he won't), his life as a ninja is all over. Many of you have stated that Gai won't die but there's no confirmation of that. Gai's body is in a very feeble state right now - he was supposed to die but he has been temporarily given life by Naruto. I think he will die in the next chapter. So before you complain about all this and that, wait until something happens before you actually complain about it.

I did, but I was also in denial.. The hype on the 8 Gates and the fact that no one else has died (besides Neji, some of the SA, and some Zetsus) had me hoping that 8 Gates would at least make for one more serious death.

If Naruto saves Gai, if would ruin the purpose of the 8th gate(which is to go out with a bang) But I knew that naruto would make an epic entrance(kicking the black balls) and that was cool. Similarily, I expect sasuke to make a similar entrance in a few chapters.(he's still many km away from the main action)
