So I just recently completed Assassin's Creed IV (technically it's the 6th installment, but they aren't good at counting at Ubisoft) and I felt like the whole Assassin's Creed story is kinda going a little crazy with this whole First Civilization nonsense.

Now it's a cool concept and I think if done correctly it could actually be good, but I just feel like they're trying to stretch it out. Now if you've played through the story (Remember there are major spoilers in here, just incase you ignored the warning) you'll know that in the real world the Sage throughout history was actually the lover of Juno, the crazy cyber chick Desmond freed in Assassin's Creed 3. He's been constantly reborn throughout history through some crazy future technology/space magic that Juno created. And the guy that blackmailed your character in Assassin's Creed 4 was the modern incarnation of the Sage.

The story of Assassin's Creed is kinda turning more to a 80,000 year old love story that you're messing up. And then at the end of the main story, the Sage is killed by security. The End. Why was that important? Why did that matter in the slightest? Who were you being in the modern day? Will they ever be done with Assassin's Creed?

Your thoughts, post them below.

I suppose this game was paying more attention to the pirates rather than the modern story line, which is a good thing. I can agree that at the beginning of the series (especially AC2 and Brotherhood) that it was the most interesting. But I guess that's how alot of things are. It's not as awesome as it was before, but I do feel like it still has potential. I'm still a fan, and always will be unless they do some stupid crap. I've heard that they plan on making 10 AC's before ending it all. Hopefully in the fuedal japan era and/or ancient china before it end. As well as in the viking times.

At this point it just seems like Ubisoft have absolutely no idea as to how they're going to progress the story and franchise. Not only was Edward's story very monotonous at times but it also lacked depth. It was not as bad as last year's installment but it was very disappointing when compared to any of the Ezio games or AC 1. With that said, I just feel like Ubisoft should take a two year hiatus with the AC franchise and put their resources together to make an absolute game. I want it to have the fun of the gameplay that Black Flag fortunately delivered, as well as the intricate story of Assassins with the depth equivalent to that of Ezio. More on point though, I completely agree with your comments about the present day story. It was very undeveloped and unfinished. It was as if Ubisoft was treading lightly as they didn't really know where to take this new story. This is extremely frustrating for players such as myself who loved Desmond's character and story but hated how his story concluded last game. For us, this part of the game was a real slap in the face. I am still a die-hard fan of the franchise (only because of the immense joy I felt when unraveling both Altair and Ezio's stories) and will retain hope that the last two installments were simply hiccups and that the story will return to its former glory soon. However, I don't think it's likely as Ubisoft has adopted the Call of Duty syndrome in which they try to put out an AC game every year. I think IGN mentioned that there will be a new AC game this year so I really hope that if it is also disappointing, that Ubisoft take a break for a while and put out something worth the title of Assassin's Creed.

I agree, I had way more fun just being a pirate than I did actually playing the storyline. I feel like they are at a crossroads and they have to come at it carefully.

But 10 games? I don't know how long they could hold out.

I'd have to disagree with Edwards story being monotonous, I found it interesting and in quite good depth, though I would've liked it more if they'd pay more attention to when Edward and the famous pirates were hanging out and having a blast. I don't think it'll be like Ezio's story because it'd not be as good, and others would say that it would be just a copy and paste, which I'd have to agree with.

I think the modern day part will make more sense when watch dogs comes out. They are gonna tie the two series together and I think that will help the modern day part. I've always wanted to do the assassin thing in a modern day city like new York, LA, or san Francisco. Ezio and Altair where definitely the best but I did like Connor and Edward. They just need to take more time making the games vs trying to get them out every year.

The games were like this from the start, kinda. In Assassin's Creed II (or Brotherhood), you collected those Animus Fragments or something left by Subject 16 and it revealed Adam and Eve with an Apple of Eden. This story has already been planned. Also, it's not that they're bad at counting, but several years ago they said that with each numbered Assassin's Creed, they would make a new character (Altair, then Ezio in II, Connor in III and Edward in IV) and it's just that Ezio's story was important and wouldn't fit into one game. Juno is not a cyber chick, she's a God. Or, in the games, they're not really Gods, but people who "came before" and were the ones that made humans.

I'm liking how in-depth Ubisoft is going with the story and I have zero complaints for the series.
