Being new to this forum I'm not sure if this is necessary here but just to be safe: Major Spoilers
Since Kishimoto is a very symbolic writer, this theory will mostly just be analyzing symbols to derive a conclusion. Most of the logic will come from patterns that Kishimoto likes to include so subtly and frequently.
Anyways grab a snack and a beverage if you want. This one might be long.
With that out of of the way, lets get started shall we =D

1. Since the introduction of Tobi, Obito's character development has been heavily undertoned with ideas of duality. The duality symbolism as Tobi was subtle but has been consistently present through:
A) His personality and "acts" were dualistic-
His front as funny and charismatic Tobi
His front as serious and villain mastermind Madara
B) His Appearance
His body is literally half Senju half Uchiha, half "artificial body with no feelings" half human, half zetsu half human, etc.
He has the eye of the curse of hatred and the eye of the Sage. The white mask design is also that of the Juubi's eye, which visually looks like a combination of the two.
When Obito uses what I assume is woodstyle here. The tree represents life, but the bloodshed and bodies twist it into a mass and violent representation of death. Also, one side of his face is shedding a tear while the other is stained with blood. Both points are subtle and seem nitpicky, but I don't believe it was by chance given all of these dualistic themes involved with him.
C) He spoke to both Naruto and Sasuke, narrating past plot that essentially conveys the Yin Yang concepts:
To Sasuke, it was the Senju and Uchiha conflict
To Naruto, it was mainly the story of the Elder and Younger sons, where it strongly hints that Naruto and Sasuke represent the two sons.
The duality/Yin Yang concept is a major theme between characters in Naruto, however it only really consistently occurs through the interaction of two characters. Obito seems to be the exception, in which duality is consistently represented through him solely, either symbolically or otherwise. Why is that?
2. In his narration to Konan is when he starts to define the Sage of Six Paths
A) He characterizes the Sage as a dualistic entity
B) Once again the Juubi's eye, but it has a Yin Yang symbol in the middle of it this time, further pushing the dualistic theme that the Sage also has.
C) States that the Sages power was to use Yin Yang abilities to turn imagination into reality, which is exactly what Obito wants to do.
3. Although originally Madara's plan, Obito is the only villain who has been advancing The Moon Eye Plan and the only one who truly seems to care about completing it. Completing the plan and turning imagination into reality is Obito's entire goal at this point. His goal is to have the power of creation like the Sage of Six Paths did.
4. Obito wants the Sage's power and has gone through great actions to acquire it, however, they are all opposite of what the Sage was known for.
A) It has been hinted that Rikudou was a great bringer of peace. Obito is a great bringer of war.
B) Rikudou separated the tailed beasts from the ten tails. Obito brought the tailed beasts back together to recreate the ten tails.
The conclusion here is that Obito is meant to be a foil character to Rikudou. Both characters seem extremely similar in the symbols and actions used to represent them, but comparison of their character is dualistic, and they are like Yin and Yang.
5. Although Kakashi is generally accepted as the main foil character to Obito, at this point I believe he is mainly a supporting character that is meant to highlight Obito's dualism in the most recent chapters.
A) Obito attempts to break Naruto's philosophies, which are exactly the same as Obito originally believed in. Kakashi immediately notices that Obito is essentially fighting himself.
B) Madara also notices that Obito seems to await Naruto's response
C) Kakashi confirms that Obito is fighting himself through Naruto
D) Kakashi repeats Obito's own words back to him, symbolizing once again, that Obito is fighting himself
At this point, Obito's character development is reaching its climax as Kishimoto uses other characters to symbolize the dualistic conflict that is going on within Obito. He is attempting to rival the Sage of the Six Paths and is close to making his "imagination into reality." Now his Elder curse of hatred self is trying to deny his Younger will of fire self through other characters, but Madara and Kakashi have both seen that Obito is still fighting between the two internally for some reason.
Conclusion: Obito is currently at a crossroads and he has a choice to make between the two paths. Due to his current position as a near perfect foil to Rikudou currently, he will most likely take the curse of hatred path. If that happens he will probably kill Kakashi and take back his sharingan in place of the rinnegan to symbolize his full role as a corrupted Sage of the Six paths, with matching eyes that fittingly can bend reality (Kamui).
He will then pit Naruto and Sasuke against each other as foreshadowed by Obito
And in true Kishimoto fashion, Obito will have his moment of redemption. At his moment of death he will admit his failure to turn reality into imagination, and will choose his true successor that will separate the tailed beasts once again, end the cycle of hatred, and create a peaceful world where everybody can be happy.
