This contains spoilers up to the current episode of Ink Master, leading up to the finale.
It was well pointed out in the last episode that Kyle did in fact deserve to be in the Finale. Both him and Baby had 1 bad tattoo among the 2 they did this week. Kyle, overall, deserved to be in the finale more than Baby imo.
However, these are the reasons I believe they brought Baby to the finale:
1. Big, bold tattoos.The judges wanted big, vibrant and creative tattoos in the finale, which Baby would more likely deliver over Kyle.
2. Baby was a fan favorite. If they eliminated her in 4th, she would have been voted back, its a simple fact. Yes this time the 2 voted back will have to compete for the one spot, but it would still end up being a popularity contest and you better bet that Baby would have been voted back if she was eliminated. If this were to happen, neither the judges, nor Baby herself, could possibly stand her staying another season. She was beyond burnt out and bringing her back for a third season is something that none of them would have wanted.
3. Ratings. Baby in the Finale will undoubtedly boost ratings.
I know this goes against everything the show stands for, ie picking the best overall artist and wanting them to show things they were not good at in the past and prove the judges wrong, but clearly there are other factors they have to consider, especially while the show rises in popularity.
On a side note, we know that in regard to overall performance, Kyle was better overall. He was good in some challenge, but middle of the road in most. Baby was very good in some challenges, but very bad in others. Kyle's main weakness was in his design capability and his problem with over-thinking designs, the opposite of Baby who primarily has problems with anatomy and specific detail. Kyle, imo, was a better overall artist, but Baby would better suit the live Finale.
