Can it? Because by all aspects seen in the latest chapters -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------[so people don't realize what I am talking about from going over my thread]
it shouldn't be anymore. The rinnegan is evolved from sharingan. It said it plain as day in the bottom part of this page "The Rinnegan is what awaits you when you progress beyond the sharingan"

To say that it is separate is saying like EMS is separate because it is an evolution of the original technique. It really isn't a dojutsu, just another level for the Uchiha. And before you say "Oh, but it isn't a natural progression" well neither is EMS. Through the course of living your life, you don't naturally take your brothers eyes out and put them in for yours. So, should it still count as a stand-alone thing?

No... The sharingan is a diluted rinnegan... overtime rinnegan devolved into the 1 tomoe sharingan in morder day

through particular steps, a uchiha can reawaken the original doujutsu

doujutsu means eye technique.... so rinnegan is technically a doujutsu. Nagato was born with it, Madara evolved to have it. Doesn't matter how one attains it.

And Nagato wasn't born with it. He unlocked it. But the intances around that is shady.

But they are linked, if the Rinnegan is the Sharingan's next evolution, then is it really a separate dojutsu?

nagato had the rinnigan when he was getting basic training from Jman. He awakened it when the three of them were getting attacked by that rain ninja.

i think that the rinnigan that Nagato had and the rinnigan that Madara has are actually different. i don't think madara's is as powerful as Nagatos, just like Kakashi's MS isn't as powerful as Itachi's or Sasuke's.

How do you mean, different? Because a Rinnegan's a Rinnegan's a Rinnegan. I can see maybe a change in how they use it, but that would only affect the effectiveness.

the real doujutsu was the rinnegan, the sharingan is a mutation, possibly byakugan also

yes but if rinnegan was from the sharingan then nagato would have to have an uchiha parent right? unless madara did transplant them in nagato or its not part of sharingan

the son of so6p, did not have rinnegan, he had the diluted rinnegan , they are different spiral patterns , also i believe his eyes were tainted by the juubi in his fathers blood, thus it became red
