What is Sound?

Sound is a type of energy made by vibrations my mannnnnn. When any object vibrates, it causes movement in the air particles. These particles bump into the particles close to them, which makes them vibrate too, causing them to bump into more air particles and so on and so on. This movement, called sound waves, keeps going until they run out of energy to sustain themselves. If your ear is within range of the vibrations, you hear the sound created from those vibrations in the air. Sound not only travels through the air, but when traveling through a liquid, such as water, it travels four times as fast. I think that's an ok way of putting it.

Anywho, on to the Narutoverse context, yeah?

Sound is made up of two great elements, one which is my favorite; Wind and Lightning. I'm guessing lightning is used to create the vibrations, while wind is used to carry and sustain the vibrations as they travel. Or i could just be making shit up and stuff. Sound is broken up into 3 categories, all with different affects and abilities, though all useful in their own way. There's also alot of stuff about frequency and such, which i know nothing about tbvh, so you'll have to tell me about these things.

Hindering Sound Waves
Hindering sound waves are probably my favorite category of Sound Release. It simply uses sound to hinder or harm the opponent in a non destructive manner. A simple example of this could be a loud ringing within someone's ear drum, which rings so loud that it damages the ear and throws off their equilibrium and balance for a set amount of time. Another way this works is Sound Waves paralyzing someone through sound entering their body and straining their muscles and such, completely stopping movements. This type of Sound moves near instantly if I'm not mistaken, so in most cases always takes effect on the target.

Sound Genjutsu
Sound Genjutsu is a unique way of casting illusions through the use of all types of sounds, ranging from a snap, to a whistle. These usually cause some sort of paralysis, or pain, which will cause the opponent to malfunction in their movements or actions altogether.

Destructive Sound Waves
Destructive sound waves are the most straight forward. They use sounds to cause waves of sound that push away, or destroy things on contact. This can be done, for example, by shouting, which releases a powerful "blast" of sound that destroys things in its way. If I'm not mistaken, destructive sound waves gain more damage when passing through water sources but only a few techniques have numerical value on such damage boosts.

I wanted sound because (well it used to be) it is a unique element with numerous uses and vast versatility. I plan on using sound to complement my fighting style through all 3 categories, but most likely more on the Hindering sounds and destructive sounds. Hindering sounds speak Loud to me because i like to cause pain to or paralyze a target through illusions. The Hindering sounds can achieve the same things (pain and paralysis) though without the drawbacks of a fullbody surge or more pain breaking them out of it.

Very good, just what I expected. Just to add a little more of information for your benefit.

Real life:

sound is vibrations that travel through a specific medium, and can be heard when it finally reaches the ear. Sound waves are caused by vibrations of objects and such, and they travel from said source outwards. There are two types of waves: Longitudinal waves and transverse waves.

The definition for each:
Longitudinal Waves - waves in which the displacement of the medium is in the same direction, as the direction of travel of the wave. I.e looking something ideally like this.

Transverse waves - Are at right angles as opposed to being in the same direction. Real life Sound also contain different pitches, notes and frequencies. I'll cover the remaining of this later on, but for now the normal hearing frequency of people is between 20 Hz and 20 000 Hz, so anything above or below this, it can't be heard by the human ear.

Narutoverse:

Sound in the Narutoverse could almost be considered the same as real life but with the obvious different of the one within Naruto is create through the usage of combining two chakra natures, using this sound, allows the user to create or produce sound waves or vibrations. This means that these vibrations can be used in various ways, from disorienting the opponent to inducing Genjutsu.

Hmm. So much to know of sound tbh. Lol

But strengths and weaknesses. ... Ima go with what i think of "strengths", per se. I don't think it mentions any actual strengths anywhere on nb, but i believe Sound would have a distinct strength to things such as fire, and lightning, seeing as they have no real way to hinder or distort the sound waves.

It is clearly weak to wind. Wind can disrupt and destroy the sound waves because wind/air is the main source that sound travels on.

Something that i see as both strength and weaknesses of Sound Release is, earth and water. Yes they can block the path of the sound traveling , but on the other hand, sound travels stronger and faster through solids/liquids than it does through the air. So in a sense, those two elements could be a double edged sword in some case. Like if someone uses S-rank water, and i use that one S-rank sound technique (it has a B and A rank variant also) which gains +20 going through water. The sound technique would normally just do 80dmg, but due to going into the water, it would be enhanced to 100dmg and destroy the water technique.

Just an example, not sure if that's how the two would play out, so don't quote me on it sir.

Some things you got wrong, and some things you got right. I'll explain;

Strength of Sound Release is its speed. To a different element there is no real strength against. I mean it can go against other elements and break them up but still that doesn't mean it is strong against that one element.

It is neutral to elements like Lightning and Fire. Lightning seems to not to do anything to Sound. Fire on the other hands can make the sound faster because of the heat it gives off and the sound absorbs that heat increasing the molecules in it.

Sound is also weak to gas like elements.

Sound is weak against wind because it disrupts the air and the frequency of the sound waves.

Earth is actually quite weak to sound, it can be shattered with ease.
Let's go with this. You put up a wall between us, and I clap. Can you still hear the clap?

With water, somewhat. But the water merely increases the damage cause by the sound. So in a sense. Sound is strong to water also.

As in, write me a small wallie on it, as to why its advantages and disadvantages, and why you like the technique, etc. Whatever comes to mind at that point, also, don't be afraid to ask questions. Description: The user will enhance their hearing by infusing his ears with sound chakra. Then, by utilizing chakra and enfacing his lungs, the user will be able to control the frequency and intensity of the sound emitted from his simple breathing. This low frequency, inaudible sound is passively emitted and has no effect other than emerging from him and bouncing off of objects. Using the enhanced hearing, the user is able to know where everything is around them, effectively creating a sonar effect through the rebound and reflection of sound waves. The hearing and the sonar effect is precise enough so that one can effectively use it to substitute one's vision in battle if needed. Despite being very effective, specially if the user has any of his other senses hindered, it also leaves the user vulnerable to sound genjutsu or sound attacks which will be much more drastic in its effects.

Okay, you know this technique. Its been used by many people for different reasons, and you'll see why now. What makes it special is the amount of chakra needed to activate it, and actually keep it active. Nonetheless, when I usually try and briefly explain this, I tend to do everything and actually explain the whole technique. So leggo.

So this is a basic concept, but allows for some pretty sweet affects along with some drawbacks ofc. Using a certain style of breathing, controlling the way the sounds are released, we'd create a makeshift sonar ability. It makes small sound waves bounce off of objects and come back to us, giving us a "feel" for everything around along with the amazing hearing that it grants. Ofc with this enhanced hearing, loud sounds become hazardous to us, Hindering us in a big way, maybe even causing us to go deaf if loud enough tbh. The fact that it only takes 1 chakra point per turn is nice af too. Lol

Indeed, and loud sounds will also cause your ears to start bleeding and cause disorientation too. So its a perk, but it has its drawbacks.

Description: A simple technique where the user touches an object and infuses it with sound chakra, enabling it to vibrate and produce a low frequency, high amplitude sound. The vibrations cause objects to bounce off of the targeted object which is highly useful when fighting with weapons or to make thrown basic weapons resist opposing thrown weapons.. It also resonates to the user if he were to be blind (because of a genjutsu for example), letting the the user know the objects position and what it deflects. It can also be applied to solid objects or structures the user may wish to destroy or, by applying it to the ground or similar, detect what is around him by making it resonate with the same low frequency. The object gets no added power, only the ability to deflect incoming objects that want to counter it.



Now this is a pretty cool technique which can be used in several ways. Its basically infusing your Sound based chakra into an object, causing it to vibrate and produce low frequency, high amplitude sound waves. Tell me why this is useful, and also, see the various uses it has and touch on that.

It's a useful technique because if I'm mot mistaken, the sounds pulsing from the weapons/objects this is applied to aren't noticeable so would seem like normal objects. People would require sensing and things of that sort, or the affects would easily be able to get their job done. Knocking objects away is a cool thing, but the resonating effect is much more useful. Being able to sense anywhere the object goes and touches, would be good in numerous circumstances. Like i could use it on the ground or water source around me, giving me the ability to sense all over close range if something were to touch that immediate area. By the looks of it, i could apply it to other solid structures even if created by someone else, being able to sense and track it when it moves or touches things.

Description: The user charges Ototon chakra into the palms of their hands, and then smashes them together. The force creates high frequency sound waves which can be used to disperse incoming "solid" jutsu (only works on B-Rank or below jutsu) like those of Water Release or Earth Release.



Focus your Sound based chakra into the palms of your hands, and smash them together, whilst aiming at the an incoming "object", like Water or Earth release of B rank and below. This technique allows you to disperse them. Pretty simple, but limiting as well.

I actually like this technique alot. It may be simple and limited to lower ranked techniques, but it has a cool affect and it essentially makes B-rank or below water and earth useless against us. By clapping our hands together we let out a sound that near instantly disperses earth or water techniques, making them plainly disappear in thin air. Wew. Can be very very useful and one of my favorites on the list if we're being frank.

Description: The user gathers chakra either around their fist, arm, or leg and then charges towards their opponent. Upon utilizing an attack involving the aforementioned limb, it causes a release of sonic vibrations (of a low frequency but with a high amplitude) that act as a secondary strike, making the opponent unable to use the body part that has been hit for 1 turn. This happens because the sound vibrations damage soft tissue by resonating within the water molecules that reside within it. The effect is similar to a localized explosion upon contact that rips through the targeted area and creates a shockwave that blasts the target backwards. The skill is exceptionally useful if used against solid techniques such as those from Earth Release (or similar) which will shatter upon being hit.



A technique where you will gather sound chakra around a limb, and use it to strike the opponent with said limb. This will cause the area which is initially struck, to be insufficient for use for a single turn. Explain to me a bit on how and why.

The resulting effect is a massive forward shockwave of low frequency, high amplitude sound that levels anything in its path. Despite weakening as it travels, its faster than most wind or lightning techniques and can still be defended from. If used within a water source it receives +20 damage.



The first of a lot of variations, where you will gather a large amount of Sound chakra in your throat, and inhale. You will then exhale, as you scream, roar or yell (roaring is lit), and release forward a massive shockwave of Sound. If used through water, it gains a +20 in damage.

The first one is just bad ass. Idk why ppl don't expand more on the close combat of sound release. I'd charge sound chakra around/within a limb such as my arm or legs or simply my fist. With the sound chakra present I'd go for what would seem like a normal strike to most, though upon impact I'd release the sound chakra to do 2 things. The more straight forward part is blowing an opponent backwards from the sheer force, but that's only the mediocre part of it tbh. The better part is that when hit with this, vibrations of sound resonates through the soft tissues of the body, using the water that is within the body as a medium to cause harm and temporary disability to the target area. This means if they were to block the hit with their hand, that hand would become useless for a turn. The same for a leg or arm or any other specifically targeted limb. Pretty sweet attack.

The second technique is one of the less intricate uses of sound, but still useful when used correctly. It's releasing destructive sound waves through the use of a sound coming from the mouth, whether it be a shout, roar, yell etc. Thus causing a "blast" per say. The cool thing about this is the fact that it will gain +20 damage if going through a water source, but as I've been told by LoK it has to be a decent amount of water for it to pick up speed and actually gain the boost.

Description: The user charges Ototon chakra into his hands and snaps his fingers, triggering a genjutsu through the emission of high frequency sound waves. As he snaps, the sound is amplified, sounding as if it is directly by the enemy's ear. To them, it sounds as if something has just snapped in half. The user then manipulates the illusion to make it appear as if either a large branch has fallen from a tree or the ground under them has broken clean in half, causing the target to believe they are falling through the earth or have been struck with a large object, pushing them to the earth. The user has control over the illusion, being able to make it seem as if entire trees have been snapped in half, falling on the target or as if an earth structure has collapsed either above or beneath the opponent, etc. The illusion can be edited to fit the situation and even the sound can be slightly altered deepening on the object that is "snapped". Is more effective depending upon the terrain this is used in ( extremely effective in a forest, not effective in a desert ).



Okay, now you know Genjutsu is my thing. This is the first Sound Genjutsu on the list, and is triggered by a simple snap of your fingers, releasing high frequency sound waves. Now I actually want you to explain the technique to me, cause if I do, I'll basically just be doing what you have to do xD.

Description: The user gathers Ototon chakra in his vocal chords. He then whistles, releasing a high frequency sound wave, creating a sound similar to a faint buzzing in the target's ear, similar to Ringing Madness. However, instead of causing a foe to become disoriented, it impairs his hearing, making the buzzing the only thing that he can hear, seeming as if the target has bees swimming around his ear. The buzzing drowns any sound out, unless they are exceptionally loud (i.e. great explosions, one yelling directly into the target's ear, etc), making it very difficult for the target to hear incoming jutsus or attacks.
Note: Hearing impairment lasts 3 turns



Gather Sound chakra to your vocal chords, and whistle. As you do, high frequency sound waves are released and causes the opponent to hear a faint buzzing sound which causes disorientation and later, the buzzing is the only thing the opponent hears. Makes it great for the attacking the opponent with a surprise attack of some sort. This is a good example of a Hindering Sound Wave.

This illusion is pretty cool and requires nothing but a mere snap of the fingers, which can be used while the hand is out of sight to make it more realistic. The sound from the snap is amplified and controlled to sound like a tree/branch being snapped in half or the ground being broken directly below them or even an earthen structure breaking above them. This has many uses depending on the terrain, making the target think they're falling in a large ass hole, seeing a tree fall on them or even an earthen structure collapsing onto them from above. If used on the proper terrain, there's no obvious way to tell it's an illusion, unless the target has some sort of sensing or doujutsu that let's them know their chakra network has been tampered with. I'd personally use it on the ground when someone is running, having them think they're falling into an endless pit so they'll react accordingly while stopping their forward progress in that moment.

This is probably one of the more straight forward examples of a Hindering sound technique. By doing a mere whistle, I'd be capable of causing sound waves that'll enter a target's ear, having them hear a high pitched buzzing sound; A sound that could be compared to buzzing of bees directly on the ear. The sound that is created would stay ringing within their ears for 3 whole turns, making that the only thing they hear unless it is something extremely loud such as great explosive sounds, or very loud yells right by the ear or things of that nature. This is good to mask the sounds of say a lightning attack, or water, or fire; Making the crackling of the lightning, the splashing of water, and noises of flames unheard and harder to even notice. Pretty cool.

Description: Similar to the (Ototon: Hibiki Rendan no Jutsu) - Sound Release: Echo Assault Skill, the user concentrates chakra into their vocal cords, amplifying his/her voice and lets out a scream, roar or a yell. The effect is a large emission of low frequency, high amplitude sound waves but instead of a forward attack, its manipulated into an omnidirectional sound blast that expands outwards all around the user, pushing attacks and enemies backwards with might.



This one is pretty useful and similar to Echo Assault Skill in how it is performed. You will concentrate your Sound chakra into your vocal chords, and amplify your voice as you let out a scream, roar or yell. This sends out a sound wave of low frequency, high amplitude, but instead of being a forward blast, it is omnidirectional.

Description: This is a much greater and focused version of the (Ototon: Hibiki Rendan no Jutsu) - Sound Release: Echo Assault Skill technique in which the user gathers his sound chakra into his throat as he inhales afterwards exhaling as he screams, yells or roars. The resulting effect is a massive forward shockwave of low frequency, high amplitude sound that levels anything in its path. Unlike its weaker technique, the massive power it carries makes it slightly slower, equal to an average equally ranked Raiton technique. Unlike the unfocused nature of its weaker version, its focused almost like a beam, affecting an area of 50º in front of the user. If used within a water source it receives +20 damage.



Just a more advanced and focused version of Echo Assault Skill. The same method as before where you will gather your Sound chakra to your throat and inhale, only to exhale in the form of a scream, yell or roar. This blasts forward a shockwave of low frequency, high amplitude. However, this blast is now more focused like a beam, having a 50 degree area in front of you. If used within a water source, it adds a plus 20 to damage.
