Someone clarify EMS for me...

So once an Uchiha someone obtains MS they need to transplant their sibling's eyes into their self. but what is stopping two siblings from exchanging eyes? Why couldn't Izuna and Madara simply switch eyes to both get EMS?

1] The Uchiha had no way of knowing they would gain an entirely new ocular jutsu just from transplanting someone's eyes; it's pure coincidence
2] Izuna died anyway from his wound
3] Plot doesn't allow both brothers to exist with eternal eyes.

they must merge, fuse together to create EMS.

It has already been stated that the eyes fuse to become one eye. When one Mangekyou user is at the point where he needs a transplant, they are also at the point where they are also almost blind. Their Mangekyou is losing light and has no supplementing chakra to create the "light". Once they transplant the eyes the two eyes merge in to one set of eyes; displayed by the hosts MS having characteristics of the donors MS. The donors eyes give new light to the host MS and also give birth to the EMS with the chakra supplemented from itself. Remember what Sasuke said: "I can feel Nii-San's power flowing through me".

Stated by whom? Magical fairies? The eyes are the donor's eyes, not both eyes.

The eyes merge. That's why - if it was a simple exchange, it would be too easy. Also, Tobirama landed a fatal blow on Izuna so regardless of what happened [unless Izuna had Kamui and the Uchiha Clan had awesome medics], Eien no Mangekyo wouldn't have helped but made Madara temporarily defenceless.

Where's all this "fusing" and "merging" coming from? Who said that and when? Not that I'm trying to refute that, I just don't recall anything like that being said in the manga at all.

I want to say Plot No Jutsu, but both brothers getting EMS wouldn't exactly change the plot. Izuna still would of died and Itachi still would of died.

the plot simply took that route.
Izuna was going to die anyway, there would be no point in exchanging eyes, and Itachi also was going to die from his illness.
nowhere it says they can't exchange eyes and both get EMS.

also the crow Itachi gave to Naruto activates ONLY with his eyes, and he did it cause he knew Sasuke would eventually transplant them...

Neither Madara, nor Sasuke got the chance to make an exchange. Madara only had a 1-tomoe sharingan before he got EMS, so there wasn't much point at first. Sasuke thought Itachi was evil, so he wouldn't have done that. /thread

Madara's actions suggested that he didn't read the tablet until after Konohagakure was established. It was only after then he hinted at his plan involving the 10 tails proceeded to attack Hashirama to gain his genetic material.

The list goes on and on... My question is.. why question something this small when such bigger, more impossible things have happened in this series?
