I agree with you!
I had this theory that just when Tobi is about to accomplish his Moon's Eye Plan, the Sage appears. It would be as if Tobi — a fake imposter — is defeated by the real Sage.

The main point is that it would be a reference to how Christ, in the end times, defeats the Antichrist. Meh, I'm wrong of course
