So far we've seen the mist field trip referenced in manga as well as the appearance of one of the anime original "filler" characters from Boruto's academy class. So does this mean all that shit is canon or do we not know yet?

Well I am referring to the anime community's definition of filler and canon rather than it's historical definition in literature. But I don't remember why I disliked your post so I removed it.

Didn' t happen in the manga=filler.

I consider Naruto and Boruto being 2 different mangas since the moment Ikemoto decided to make Momoshiki' s final trans. completely different than Kishimoto's version that is canon to the Naruto manga.
Ikemoto and co doesn' t care about being consistant with the Naruto manga.
