So the "filler" in anime is canon now?

So far we've seen the mist field trip referenced in manga as well as the appearance of one of the anime original "filler" characters from Boruto's academy class. So does this mean all that shit is canon or do we not know yet?

Filler in Boruto is likely canon although not the case in Naruto. Kodachi can make things canon in his version which may not necessarily be canon in Naruto.

It's still filler.

Could you two elaborate a bit on why exactly? I used to be on the “it’s filler” side until statements and “filler” characters began to appear in the manga.

Do you consider it al filler because Kishi is no longer at the helm in this? Honestly curious on you’re opinions.

Writing my whole dissertation on this subject lol.

Filler is a fan-made concept and entertainment is entertainment. Kishi has no authority as an author and even if he did, he was NEVER the sole author of the Naruto series. If Kishimoto's influence alone is biblical to you lot, then i'm sorry to tell you that the invention of Sasuke is too 'filler'.

Non-manga characters have appeared in the manga for years now so it's apparent that Kishimoto doesn't care and the only people who ruin the new Naruto content is the fans themselves. Pointless.

It’s not a fan made concept though, all the naruto bickering stuff aside, the term filler has been around for at the VERY LEAST when dbz was actually airing in the early 90’s. The thing with filler in dbz is there was lil(in comparison to say, nardo and bleach)and very very easy to identify and pick out(like the piccolo and Goku driver license episode) there was never anything wrong with it being a filler episode, it was only called such because it filled space/time without actually being necessary or part of the plot. “Filler” isn’t something that just popped up recently

Half-correct. Literary canon has had it's critical reception controversies for centuries, from Sherlock Holmes to myth and legend. Non-canon is a literary/industry term and it's understanding to fandom has become derogatory and confused, through the word 'filler'. This definition is the fandom invention, changing the way audiences receive stories.

That’s fair, and it has been exaggerated a bit, I just wanted to clear up that filler and canon have been around for awhile, but your right, until recently it was pretty clear cut cases and just used to let people know that “hey, this isn’t really relevant to plot or in the manga” as opposed to the pissing matches that “filler” invokes now

If it's not in the Manga nor referenced in it then it's filler. Just like Naruto supposedly killing Raiga, when he never even met the guy.

I'm using 'filler' as separate to 'non-canon' because in circles like these, they carry different meanings and ideas.

It's not referenced anywhere so they are filler IMO

The mist arc is referenced in the manga and sumire even appears in the manga. Were you talking about something different?

Yeah the filler episodes that are outsourced like:

Denki and Iwabe saving people in a fire, those type of episodes that exist outside of those Arcs.
Boruto getting Himawari sweets
Sarada train mission
etc
