This isn't really a prediction thread or a debate thread... just a nice little discussion thread :p

SO MANY Naruto characters are consumed by their attempts at finding the secrets to infinite life, or at least by their attempts to prolong their lives.

1. Kakuzu. He steals the hearts of his enemies and incorporates them into his own body. He was something like 150 years old, if I remember correctly.
2. Hidan. He's the only "real" immortal, gaining this power from his worship of his "Lord Jashin".
3. Orochimaru. Need I say more?
4. Sasori. Turned himself into a puppet with a core of living tissue.
5. Nagato. Nagato went BEYOND wanting to be immortal and went on to wanting to be worshipped as a god.
6. Tsunade. She modifies her appearance to look young. That way, she can maintain her own self-delusion of eternal youth.
7. Madara. It's not quite clear how he's managed to live for so long, but it's obvious that he wishes to live forever.
8. Sasuke. Sasuke wishes to immortalize himself by recreating his clan. He wants to father future generations, passing his DNA on to a new Uchiha clan.
9. Gai. Gai wishes to be young forever, and he attempts to perpetuate this delusion by constantly training himself and convincing himself that he still possesses the "fire of youth". Inside, he is nothing but a scared, immature child.

So what's the significance of all this, if any? Anyone have any comments?

Well, it makes sense that they'd want to do this. I just find it interesting to look at their personalities by thinking about them like this :p

Interesting comment you made. People Dream of Eternal Youth. Once they attained it, they do not know what to do with it. That is why they are Humans.

This could turn into quite an intersting philosophical debate, so I'm going to start it (bratty as I am):

Imagine that scientific research suddenly found the solution to the problem of 'aging'. At a chosen age, you can thus take a pill/shot/undergo cell therapy etc.. that stops your body from 'aging' when your cells reproduce. Would you say yes to this? Once you start treatment, you cannot go back. That is, you will stay the way you are (at whatever age you were when you started treatment), and live forever (unless mortally wounded). Forever. Time will change, and you will, of course have to deal with these changes. Cultural, social, political, hell; biological for that matter. You cannot die.

Would you do it? Why? Why not? What could be the implications and benefits (except for the obvious one, as Tobi! so eloquently made clear for us) for doing this?

Would you really want to live Forever?

I'm currently doing research on this, and would much appreciate your lengthy answers, my dear new friends and foes.

(Apologise for the scrupulously rude non-Naruto interruption of topic..)

Kakuzu was 91 when he was defeated not 150.

But I think Hidan was actually the true immortal, but so far Madara seem's to be the oldest living character.

But if you had the option to be immortal I think people would take it.
