The point is that Edo Nagato was able to pull them all into the air and was attempting to capture/kill them by sucking them in. How or why did Madara not try to do the same? Its not as if everyone on the ground prevented themselves from being pulled up, Madara didn't pull them up for some reason.

Because they easily have enough firepower and know chibaku tensei's weakness so it would have been pointless. Madara was mixing it up so he wouldn't do what they were expecting him to do

Lol nice try but Madara was still in his coffin by the time Nagato was defeated so he wouldn't logically have knowledge of that. Apart from him sharing knowledge of that battle, the point I"m making is that they should have been automatically sucked up. Did Madara purposely not suck them up with it? Up to this point, Chibaku Tensei has never been shown to have such control.

Don't be silly now. Its simply gravity and gravity affects everything. Either it was overlooked by Kishi or Madara had the ability to not target them and purposely didn't.

Perhaps, but mostly I'm trying to convey the fact that the technique should have automatically pulled them upward along with all the Earth it pulled up. As I responded to Bean's post above, previous indications prove that people and techniques are drawn to the nucleolus, not just Earth.

Another plausible solution is that they used their chakra to stick to the ground.

I think that madara was trying to give them distance between himself and them, cause he needed to get close to the moon, if he was to drag them up in the air, they probably have an high possibility of escaping and attacking madara in the air while he is trying to cast the jutsu.
