Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon in which a person either during falling asleep (hypnagogia) or awakening (hypnopompia), temporarily experiences an inability to move, speak, or react.

It is a transitional state between wakefulness and sleep, characterized by muscle atonia (muscle weakness). It is often accompanied by terrifying and unusually powerful hallucinations (such as an intruder in the room) to which one is unable to react due to paralysis, and physical experiences (such as strong current running through the upper body).

One hypothesis is that it results from disrupted REM sleep, which normally induces complete muscle atonia to prevent sleepers from acting out their dreams. Sleep paralysis has been linked to disorders such as narcolepsy, migraines, anxiety disorders, and obstructive sleep apnea; however, it can also occur in isolation.[1][2]
Does it happen to you?

How common it is?

Can you easily snap out of it?

I get sleep paralysis 1/2 of the time I tend to wake up but it only takes me one minute or 2 to snap out of it(maybe It's more but I don't remember the rest)and snapping out of it is such a nightmare.
Should I see a doctor?

Sleep paralysis is either caused by djins in religious beliefs or through what you just quoted. I dont think you can do anything against it other than maybe reducing stress if you are a non-believer

I experience this if I don't sleep for a full day. As soon as I close my eyes it's like I fall deep into a realm and it's hard to snap back. I would have ease my way to sleep. Cus if I don't I lose all control

I'm religious but it's definitely explainable from science... and it's a dangerous thing to happen to one.
I've never experienced it (AH) but you should definitely go see a doctor.

I wont start an argument over religious beliefs, it doesnt result in anything. Religion shouldnt be connected with logic, if you believe, do it, if not, don't

I'm an atheist.
Sleep Paralyses is a medical condition.
And it may cause permanent paralysis.

You state one hypothesis is that it's the result of disrupted REM sleep.

That tells me there haven't been any extensive studies on it.

So how exactly would a doctor help you against this unknown?

What a relative of mine told me is that in islam there are humans and djinns both created by god. There are good and bad djinns, which are the opposite of human beings. Just like I said that the things you see when you are in sleep paralysis are actually the djinns or other things. In turkish its called Karabasan, in german its Nachtalb. Every religion has their own explanations for this.

Thats what im talking about. I wont start an argument over it.

I had that experience once. Felt like something heavy on my chest and unable to breathe and when I opened my eyes it was gone. I was really scared though at the time lol.

Hmmm that's interesting. I've heard of djinns before. Like I said I feel like I'm being dragged into another dimension/realm against my will.

I don't believe in those religious superstitions and I am sure there is a scientific reason for it. Never cared to check what that is exactly.
