Reason why Indra went to Sasuke is because Itachi was never a power hungry freak that Sasuke was before this war...

Sasuke had a continuous battle from orichimaru ,dediara,itachi ,killerbee ,kages danzo.Everythough his body did not recover from previous ,he was able to tank heavy blows from dediara (C0), killerbee and A in their past battles.I sure sasuke would have tanked or live a little longer if Itachi use a strong attack against him.This will make indra intervene inside his conscious.

Those weren't cascaded fights... In most cases, he was fresh before the next battle...

Even then, he wasn't forced to plunge into battles... It was his decision to battle while being recovered, consequences rest with him...
