I didn't say it'd work, did I? I mentioned that to show he considered it.I don't think you understand how few 15 year vets there are walking around. We already have police shortages as it is. Hence the lowering of standards.

honestly doesn't matter what most civilians have, there available for purchase and that's a problem. You do realize most citizens don't have assault rifles right? Legal ones anyways
Thank you for actually reading the OP. Maybe 15 years is a little much to expect, but the point was only let the trusted cops wield the real guns. I also don't get why people think using plastic bullets is such a downgrade. Getting hit with a few plastic bullets will force you down, its not like getting hit with paintballs or something.I didn't say it'd work, did I? I mentioned that to show he considered it.
My whole point was what you are suggesting will take too long to make a difference. Having the president involved certainly won't speed anything up. Mental evaluations? Sure, but again that takes time. Something big needs to happen NOW. Things will only get worse if nothing changes, and this is a very good compromise imo. If such an event occurred, and deaths were reduced, than in the long run the guns could be returned to more cops. Again, its about doing something now to quell some of the distrust.i like youre being proactive, but this isnt a good idea imo. theres way too many guns in the country over 300 million that are known about plus the tons and tons of illegal guns from Mexico. in a country where guns are legal the cops should have them with real bullets, punishing the good cops for a few rotten eggs i disagree with
what needs to happen is the government needs to step in and show it cares about its people. the president needs to address the nations police and states. every state government needs to make an over initiative to eliminate this in its states law enforcement. cops need to serve jail time unless it obviously evident their life was in danger, to set an example for other cops who think they might get away with it in the future and to set an initiative against killing civilians. thats not what theyre there to do and shouldnt even enter with the mindset of having to use their gun
mental evaluations need to happen every year or few years by state psychologist to determine if they are fit for the job(assuming they dont now). its a highly stressful job and people grow and change, a good cop could easily see the wrong little girl get killed, on the wrong day, and just not give a **** anymore. till retirement they should be mentally evaluated and there needs to be a strict initiate against killing
oh right, because providing and replacing all of the cops guns in the nation without a certain years of experience wont take time. reassigning all partnerships and jurisdiction watch to be a vet and rook combo wont take time, even still the vets could flip out one day and kill someoneMy whole point was what you are suggesting will take too long to make a difference. Another person that didn't read the OP? My idea was to have the more experienced cop in a partnership to have a real gun. The less experienced of the 2 has a gun with plastic bullets. Plastic bullets are still enough to stop a criminal, its just not as lethal. So what if a real criminal goes to shoot the cop, what da hell are they suppose to do? Run? XD They can't defend themselves if they've no gun like the criminal does.
Having the president address the situation is just words, not action. People take notice when others take action. Taking the deadly force away from less experienced cops would likely quell some of the fear and anger that is out and about right now. Replacing less experienced cops live rounds with plastic bullets will take time, of course, but its much faster than any solution you're suggesting. I don't know it could be done better.oh right, because providing and replacing all of the cops guns in the nation without a certain years of experience wont take time. reassigning all partnerships and jurisdiction watch to be a vet and rook combo wont take time, even still the vets could flip out one day and kill someone
simply, there is no overnight solution. positive change in societies usually takes time. but the president at least making a national address saying that theyre working on change is better than not doing anything like they have been. if he made an address to the nation acknowledging that this isnt right and in future situations stricter punishments will be given to cops, change would start. especially with the president being black, i hate to play the race card and im not racist but the black community might feel a bit better as well seeing a black commander in chief saying its not right and in the future the outcomes wont be the same
In my city all the cops have their own car but no partner. How would that work?Another person that didn't read the OP? that doesnt even make sense. they wouldnt make an address to the nation like that unless they meant it. and then when someone else does it, you follow up with the action to prove it. but the threat of jail time to a cop works, nobody wants to go to jail with criminals, especially a ex copHaving the president address the situation is just words, not action.
