They're amphibians, live in arid or moist habitats - some species are arboreal, others are solely aquatic but most maintain a life cycle that has them aquatic for the first few stages of their life and then becoming largely terrestrial during adult hood until it is time to mate. All Salamanders are poisonous, they naturally excrete a mucus that acts a natural lubricant, maintaining epidermal hydration and also making them slippery - which works as a good defence against predators. Ingestion or introduction of their poison into bloodstream can cause varying effects as they possess a variety of different poison - perhaps the most notable of which is tetrodotoxin - the most powerful non-protein toxin known to man. Some Salamanders are even venomous, as they posses the ability to expand their rip cage - resulting in poison coated ribs protruding out through their flesh and stabbing into would be predators. Others are capable of spraying poison out of their glands, which can dissuade predators and prove to be a problem should it encounter a sensitive area such as the eye membranes.
Salamanders also possess an astounding regenerative ability, they're capable of regenerating from wound and can even regenerate whole limbs with ease. As a result some of their defensive mechanism involve self mutilation , such as their ability to detach their tail from their body and have it wiggle on the ground to distract predators, or protruding their ribs spines out from their body, since they do not really have to worry about wounds.

From their manga we've seen that Salamanders are capable of spewing poison, can burrow beneath ground, grow to abnormal sizes and are fairly durable.

Good good. Let's head on to the two summons that exist for the contract.

(Kuchiyose no Jutsu: Ibuse) Summoning Technique: Ibuse
Type: Supplementary
Rank: A
Range: Short
Chakra: 30
Damage: N/A
Description: Ibuse is a venomous salamander and Hanzō's signature summon. It was large enough for its summoner to stand on top of its head, easily fighting from that advantageous position. Ibuse is able to use (Ninpou: Dokugiri) - Ninja Art: Poison Mist from its mouth, which is capable of making the entirety of a victim's body numb just moments after inhalation and may eventually prove fatal, although these effects can be counteracted with the correct antidote. Ibuse is capable of concealing itself and navigating underground, even if its under the effects of an A-Rank technique. It can then resurface beneath Hanzō's enemies and swallow them, trapping them in its mouth until they have succumbed to the fatal effects of the poison. Ibuse is very resilient, taking little to no damage from B-Rank physical techniques (Earth, Water, Taijutsu, etc).

Note: can only be summoned once

Ibuse, Hanzo's signature summon. He was pretty big, could fight and use Poison to some extent. He can hide underground and swallow opponents and even trap them in his mouth with the poison. Talk about sinister. He also takes little to no damage from B rank and below physical techniques.

(Kuchiyose no Jutsu: Kyodaina sanshō̄o) - Summoning Technique: Giant Salamanders
Type: Supplementary
Rank: B
Range: Short
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A
Description: The user will do the normal summoning ritual and summon a generic Giant Salamander whose size can vary from a human sized salamander to about 15 times human size. These Salamanders vary in appearance and size and serve only as basic warriors, having only the normal characteristics of their kind. Despite not being poisonous, they can all bury underground and are very resistant to fire or high temperature damage (up to A-Rank), regardless of size. The bigger ones (more than 8 times the size of a human) will be able to endure B-Rank physical damage.

Note: Must have signed the Salamander Contract

A generic Giant Salamander, which can vary in size from being around human size to about 15 times that. These vary in size and appearance, and are not poisonous. The Salamanders are able to be burrow underground, and are resistant to high temperatures like Fire and the likes up to A rank, regardless of their size. The larger ones can endure up to B rank physical damage.

So just like, talk about them a bit.

Some particularly terrestrial Salamander species can burrow underneath ground - useful for hiding from prey, or finding their own prey, and Ibuse exhibits this capability too. Ibuse also plays off of Salamander's toxicity, except instead of secreting poison he is capable of spewing a gaseous poison from his mouth to harm opponents. On account of his size he is also relatively durable.

As for the generic giant salamanders, they too are capable of burrowing beneath ground. They also possess an resistance to high temperatures such as fire and so on, and I assume that this is a reference to Salamander's in mythology. In mythology, Salamander's are rumoured to be immune to fire, or summoned from fire. Of course, real life Salamander's aren't, but they were thought to be as they would often hide in logs that were used for camp fires and lo and behold, when the fires were started they'd come running out. The RP however seems to be feeding into Salamander mythos, which I think is cool.

Nice analysis.

(Yūdoku Gasu Kumo no Jutsu) - Poison Gas Cloud Technique
Type: Offensive
Rank: A
Range: Short-Long
Chakra: 30
Damage: N/A
Description: Hanzo will give the command "smoke them" causing his summoned salamander to attack releasing a large cloud of paralysing poisonous gas from its mouth. The effects of the gas are almost instant , making the targets body feel numb after a few seconds. With the targets paralysed, Hanzo can attack his own leisure. Unlike the Poisonous Mist, this technique does no damage to the targets.

Note: Can only be used 3 times by Ibuse.

The one Ninjutsu attached to them. Through a verbal command, Ibuse is able to unleash a paralyzing Poison from his mouth, in gas form. This is almost instant in terms of its effects, causing paralysis. Quite a simple technique, though only usable through Ibuse.

This is also pretty self-explanatory, this technique allows Ibuse to release a gaseous poison that, when inhaled my an opponent will immediately affect their nervous system in a manner that will cause paralysis. There's not much to say about it really.
