Naraku noticed Medusa's eyes widen and he smiled at the young woman.
"Yes, lets..." Naraku says with a smile on his face.
The two shinobi begin running and leap into the trees. As the two traveled, the silence between them grew, however, this was intentional as to raise the anticipation and possible frustration of Medusa.
"It'll take us some time to get there, so I'll start off by giving you off with a little history lesson."
"The ancient civilization of the Water Country is a history known to few, even our Mizukage has limited information on the civilizations that came before the era of the Sage of Six Paths. Yes, I said before the Sage of Six Paths. Though he was the founder of modern ninjutsu, he was far from the first human in this world even if he is hailed as a God. The ruins we are going to are the ruins of a society long since has fallen, fallen even before the Feudal Era that the Sage found himself a member of. And in fact, this very society is where the caracals were worshiped as divine creatures."
"Now, despite being the head signer of their contract, I'm still kept in the dark about some things and I presume this is for situations like this, when I decide to take up a student to teach and have sign the contract, they want to assure their most precious secrets are kept. Nevertheless, I cannot tell you the origins of the civilization or much else of their culture beyond the ruin writings and what the heads of the caracals tell me themselves. I can tell you, however, that before the fall of the civilization in a unnamed catastrophe, the caracals can be seen as a sort of house pet, however, they were believed to have connections with the Gods and Spirits worshiped by the members of this civilization so the caracals were kept by members of the society to act as mediums for contact and prayer to these spirits. During the catastrophe they were sent to an undisclosed location for protection, which is now their current home of the Caracal Sanctuary. Despite having been there myself, I cannot determine where in the world they've been located to. Their genjutsu and mystical abilities have kept them adequately hidden from the rest of the world. Only the caracals themselves know how to navigate from their new home in the sanctuary to the rest of the world...well, almost the only ones."
"You see, the Sage of Six Paths was the only human to travel to the Sanctuary without having been brought there by the caracals themselves. The Sage's ability to connect with nature and the fact that the caracals knew nothing of ninjutsu before the Sage, made it easier for him to find it. They were astounded by this man. For centuries they remained safe in their lives without human interaction, many of the caracals of the Sage's generation have never even seen another human, they merely heard stories about them from their ancestors. When the Sage arrived, he begged to know of heritage of these animals, having never witnessed creatures like them before or the architecture of the civilization that stayed with the Caracals for so long. The Caracals were gracious enough then, to reveal the history and heritage of their species and in return the Sage unlocked the potential hidden deep down within this species of animals and revealed to them ninjutsu. It was later discovered, after the Sage's departure that the caracals possessed an acute affinity for genjutsu, which we'll get into later."
"But like I said before, the only people, aside from the Sage of Six Paths that could travel back and forth from the Sanctuary were Caracals, and it was their homesickness for their old home that had them returning frequently to the ruins of their old cultural home in the Water Country. Before, nobody had ever known about the ruins of the ancient civilization, it was naturally hidden on the island we're on now and after the great catastrophe most of it was destroyed, and buried deep underground. During the era of Kirigakure's founding, shinobi that were on scouting duty throughout the region accidently stumbled upon the ruins and, as a result, they came into contact with the caracals. Only the few that could gain the trust of the caracals would hold onto their memories and allowed to learn more about them. Most others were cast aside, fooled by their illusions and waking up somewhere far from the ruins with no recollection."
"My natural cunning for genjutsu and my...special situation, made it pretty much impossible for them to brush me away as they've done so many other. Though they've tried, they couldn't and I believe that's where their respect and acceptance of me came from..."
Naraku sighed in his old age having talked for so much, "Look at me rambling on, is there anything you want to ask about these creatures my dear?"
