Crises Crossed?

Not sure how many training sessions you've had before but . . . mine is relatively the same.

Firs and foremost, I'm not sure if you read my message, but I'll say it here for anyone else reading; It's not often that I teach Kenjutsu techniques, I usually prefer to teach you how to use the sword itself, and after the session is over, you'll be considered as having mastered Kenjutsu and will be allowed to use the techniques in the jutsu list.

We'll go through various steps in this training and it ends with a light spar - Ironically enough, I hardly ever finish the spar, granted I see enough to pass/fail you.

Now that that's all said and done, begin by simply telling me what you know about Kenjutsu, if anything.

Ok. Thanks.

Kenjustu is the form of swordfighting in real life, as well as in the Narutoverse. It directly translates to"the method, or technique, of the sword." That's about it without looking it up.

Good, that's generally all I wanted to hear. Whatever answer people may give - which often varies, as people have their own relative definitions - a simple, universal truth remains; Kenjutsu is the art of the sword.

Many swordsman believe one of the following two things:
  • If you do not respect the sword, than you are not fit to wield one.
  • If you do not fear the sword, than you are not fit to wield one.

So, do you have any former experience with Kenjutsu? Have you had any battles where you used [freeform] Kenjutsu? Do you know what kind of sword you prefer to use, katana, nodochi, longsword, etc?

Nope i have no previous experience with kenjustu, but in real life i did use my friends sword for a little if that counts.. and I'd prefer a Ninjato type of sword.I like the style of it.

Ah well that's fine. It doesn't matter much since this training is pretty universal, but you should know that different blades impact your style of fighting.

Anyways, tell me, what do you think the difference is between a One-Handed and Two-Handed Slash? Besides the obvious of course

The one handed slash leaves one more protected, and gives them more options on what to follow up with the other hand. Two handed uses more energy but deals more damage . While also leaving you more open to attacks should you miss.

Ah, not bad. You bring up different points than most people. Though your answer is not wrong, the things you state can easily be made up for with a few "adjustments" to accommodate your situation, therefore you didn't really explicitly tell me too many differences @_@ For example, the bold can be avoided by simply taking a single hand off the blade, and incorporating some use of Taijutsu to defend yourself, you could also move out of the way/evade the follow up, etc. There would still be a few options available to you.

A One-Handed Slash is not as fast, but offers more maneuverability and allows you to easily chain attacks, whereas a Two-Handed Slash is faster and more powerful, but offers less maneuverability and isn't as easy to chain attacks after.

Now that we've distinguished the difference between a One-Handed and Two-Handed Slash, I'd like for you to demonstrate for me a One-Handed Horizontal Slash on the training dummy I have set-up; Horizontal meaning your slash should go along the x-axis, or more simply, look like this (---->).

*Hands you a Bokuto*

Good thing i passed geometry *grabs bakuto*

By taking a firm stance with right leg, i slash leading with my left hand in a straight line, creating a horizontal slash.Cutting part of the training dummy.

Good, and now a One-Handed Vertical Slash please.

And next time state which hand you're using, and precisely where you strike the dummy; Detail is always important in Kenjutsu and Taijutsu battles.

Ok my bad.

-Sasuke plants his right foot into the ground, he then swings the sword up over his left shoulder, coming down on the dummies left shoulder/neck area.-

Is that good ?

Lol, you'll get the hang of it.

Now, do you know what a stab is? If so, please describe it to me.

lol yeah i hope soo .. A stab is a thrust of the sword in which the intent is to pierce flesh and go directly through a person. Unlike a slash which has a cutting intent. Stabs are very effective for targeting certain points on the body . Like ones heart, and lungs.

Stabs themselves aren't effective for targeting a person's vitals, you as the person are responsible for that o_o. If you meant that they are highly effective in delivering a fatal blow when generally targeting a persons vitals, then yes, you're correct. Stabs are generally very quick, making them hard to avoid under a lot of circumstances, however, they don't carry much power (With the aforementioned characteristics, however, stabs can still very obviously deal a great deal of damage).

Questions?

Moving on, since earlier we distinguished the difference between a One-Handed and a Two-Handed Slash, try performing a Two-Handed Horizontal on the training dummy
